Ryan Deaderick

Executive Vice President and COO, Greylock Energy LLC, U.S. Army

Whether leading one of West Virginia’s largest oil and gas companies or coaching a local youth sports team, Ryan Deaderick is committed to making his home state a better place to live.

When it comes to his role as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Greylock Energy, his drive for improvement has led to tangible results.

“In short, he is revolutionizing how the company’s operations function and introducing new innovations designed to improve efficiencies,” said Kyle Mork, Greylock’s president and CEO. “In a volatile commodity industry like energy, this is critical for long-term sustainability and success.”

The son of a 30-year U.S. Army colonel and Vietnam veteran, Deaderick developed a heart for service, and deep patriotism, at a young age. He entered the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2002. He then joined the First Cavalry Division as a combat engineer in Fort Hood, Texas and was deployed for a year as part of Operation Iraq Freedom II. He moved to West Virginia when he was assigned to Army Corps of Engineers’ Huntington District. He completed his military career as a captain in 2007.

Throughout his military service, Deaderick earned several decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Superior Unit Award and the National Defense Service Medal. He has also received an Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and a Parachutist Badge.

Deaderick began his civilian career when he joined Energy Corporation of America as a petroleum engineer. He spent a decade with the company learning all areas of the energy business, including natural gas extraction, production and transmission. He ultimately became vice president of production.

In 2017, Deaderick became part of the executive team that launched Greylock Energy. He is responsible for the company's chain of operations, including gas extraction, production, transmission and facilities. He directs initiatives that improve production while minimizing inefficiencies and is spearheading a new asset development process designed to maximize the value of the company’s position within the Appalachian Basin.

“Ryan has a unique ability to analyze situations and develop processes that improve operations,” Mork said. “His infectious energy, dynamic approach and pioneering spirit create exciting and innovative environments where people thrive. He applies his considerable talents and unique perspectives to effect change throughout the Appalachian Basin and the broader industry.”

Deaderick is a mentor and champion for veterans and reservists working at Greylock. He helps identify their specific strengths and skills and applies them to fill strategic roles within the company.

“I find that military service prepares individuals extremely well for working in energy,” Deaderick said. “Military personnel are tremendous team members and work well under pressure. They also learn to be highly adaptable. These attributes are priceless in our industry.

“For example, our organization recently created a new role to coordinate and execute our drilling development. We found a tremendous candidate in-house, who also has military experience. I was confident he would have the potential, character, aptitude and skills needed for this challenge. And he has done a phenomenal job. This is just one example…all of the veterans on our team contribute in unique and significant ways.”

Away from the office, Deaderick is helping make West Virginia a place where families can live, work and play. An avid fisherman, he enjoys the pristine rivers and streams that flow through the Mountain State.

Outshining all of his accomplishments, Deaderick takes the greatest pride in wife Barbara, three children and faith.

He is active in his local church and on the board of a college outreach ministry.

“Above all, I want my legacy to be love, God and work hard.”
