Tourmaline Oil Corp. detailed results from the initial discovery and ongoing delineation of the liquid-rich Lower Montney Turbidite lobe in the Dawson-Doe area of northeast British Columbia, the company said May 27.
The initial discovery was made in 2013’s fourth quarter, and over the past 16 months the horizon has been tested with 10 widely-spaced horizontal wells.
The initial discovery well, at D05-5-80-15-W6, had a 30-day IP rate of 1,426 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). It currently produces 577 boe/d. This is 2.4 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas and 173bbl/d of condensate after 421 days.
The average 30-day IP rate of the four initial wells producing for more than one month is 1,252boe/d—5.3MMcf/d of gas and 372bbl/d of condensate. These include one well where only 50% of the stages in the horizontal were completed. Tourmaline also acquired 3-D seismic to image the deep, subtle Montney Turbidite horizon. Tourmaline said it now controls 234 undrilled Lower Turbidite horizontal locations.
The Lower Turbidite development project could add an incremental 75MMcf/d to 100MMcf/d of gas production and 7,500bbl/d to10Mbbl/d of condensate production. Lower Turbidite development will complement the ongoing Upper and Middle Montney development.
Tourmaline plans to spend CA$110 million on Lower Turbidite drilling and acquisitions during the rest of the year. Many funds for Lower Turbidte are available since the Sundown development was deferred. Montney horizontal drilling and completion costs were lowered to about CA$3.7 million per well this year.
Tourmaline Oil Corp. is based in Calgary, Alberta.
