Statoil (U.K.) Ltd. awarded a contract to Scotland-based Sentinel Marine Ltd. to provide a new multirole emergency response and rescue vessel (Errv) to support operations on the Mariner Field on the UK Continental Shelf, the company said March 9.
The new 65-m ship, the Mariner Sentinel, will be custom-built for Statoil and provide emergency cover, oil spill response preparedness and tanker assist capabilities for the Mariner Field.
The Errv contract’s duration is five years, beginning in July 2016. There are also five one-year extension options.
The Mariner field on the East Shetland Platform in the U.K. North Sea is currently under development, with production planned for 2017. Hookup and commissioning are scheduled for 2016. The heavy-oil field has two shallow reservoir sections – the 1,492-m Maureen Formation and the 1,227-m Heimdal reservoir. Mariner Field will produce more than 250 MMbbl of reserves. Average daily production is estimated to be about 55 Mbbl/d. More than US$7 billion is invested in the field.
Mariner Sentinel is scheduled to be in early 2017. Statoil operates Mariner Field with 65.11% equity. Its partners are JX Nippon Exploration and Production (U.K.) Ltd., with 28.89% and Dyas Mariner Ltd., with 6%.
