Total Announces Caspian Sea Discovery Results
Drilling Activity Details
Drilling Activity Summary
Description
In the Absheron Block in the Caspian Sea, Total has submitted a notice of discovery and commerciality to Azerbaijan authorities for #2X-Absheron. The well was drilled in 474 meters of water to 6,874 meters. One of the hydrocarbon-bearing intervals was tested at about 33,900 cu. ft. per day of non-associated gas. During the production test, nearly 2,515 bbl. per day of a 42.5-degree-gravity API condensate were also produced. Well results indicate gas resources of 5 trillion cu. ft. to 10 trillion cu. ft. of gas with condensates in Balakhany and Fasila on the northern compartment of the structure. The elongated structure straddles approximately 270 sq. kilometer and the cumulative net pay is greater than 160 meters thick. A sidetrack will explore the northern part of the structure. Paris-based Total operates Absheron Block with 40% interest with the State Oil Co. of the Azerbaijan Republic, holding 40% and GDF Suez with the remaining 20%.
