James A. Watt was appointed as president and CEO of Warren Resources Inc. (WRES) by the board of directors, effective immediately, the company said Nov. 16.
Lance Peterson stepped down as interim CEO, a position he had since Dec. 4, 2014. He will continue as a director, the company added.
Most recently, Watt was president, CEO and director at Dune Energy Inc., which he joined in 2007. Previously, he was CEO of Remington Oil and Gas Corp., and also was Remington’s chairman until Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc. acquired the company in July 2006.
From August 2006 through March 2007, Watt was chairman and CEO of Maverick Oil & Gas Inc.
Currently, Watt is chairman of the board of directors at Bonanza Creek Energy Inc., and also is on the board of Helix.
Previously Watt also was vice president-exploration of Seagull E&P Inc., and from 1991 to 1993, he was vice president-exploration and exploitation of Nerco Oil and Gas.
Watt has a bachelor’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
