ELA Container Gains Offshore Safety Certification

ELA Container Offshore GmbH’s offshore accommodation containers have been awarded internationally recognized DNV 2.7-2 certification for meeting key safety aspects that comply with industry standards like SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) and MODU (mobile offshore drilling units).

“DNV 2.7-2 describes safety requirements for temporary offshore container modules,” said Hans Gatzemeier, managing director of Haren, Germany-based ELA. “Besides fire protection, the main focus is on electrical installations and requirements, based on international IEC [International Electrotechnical Commission] standards and safety-related topics in order to maintain a safe working environment on offshore platforms or vessels.”

ELA said the certification applies to all aspects of the flexible modular system. Units can be configured as offices, recreation rooms, galley and dining rooms as well as living quarters and changing rooms.

Among the certifications that the German-made containers possess are: DNV 2.7-1 / EN 12079-1, DNV 2.7-2, based on SOLAS, IMO FSS Code and MLC as well as CSC. They also are approved by several International Association of Classification Societies companies.

The container’s A60 insulation meets high safety standards for fire resistance. Depending on customer requirements, ELA offshore containers are individually customized immediately.
