India-headquartered Vedanta Ltd. said March 27 that its second exploration well in the Krishna-Godavari Basin’s KG-OSN-2009/3, offshore India, struck oil.
Cairn Oil & Gas is the hydrocarbons-focused vertical of Vedanta Ltd., which holds a 100% participating interest in the block.
“Multiple reservoir zones were encountered in the well H2 within the Mesozoic sequence between the depths of 3,310m to 4,026m with hydrocarbon indications during drilling and downhole logging,” Vedanta said in a news release. “The zone from 3,403 m to 3,431 m was tested through conventional well testing (drillstem test) and flowed oil to surface.”
The company added more appraisal work is needed to determine the size and commerciality of the discovery.
Evaluation of results from the first exploration drilled, A3-2, also continue. The well made a gas discovery. Evaluations from both wells will be used to finalize the forward program, the company said.
