Michael J. Stover will retire as vice president of operations services for Marathon Oil Corp., effective Nov. 30, the company said Nov. 18. Stover has worked for the company for almost 30 years, and took his current position in 2013.
He joined the company in 1986 after earning a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University. After working as a roustabout and in operations and reservoir engineering, he transferred to the international group in Houston in 1991, handling reservoir and economic studies for fields in Ireland, Tunisia and Norway.
From 1995 through 2000, Stover worked on development and exploration projects in Anchorage, Alaska. In 2000, he joined the corporate strategic planning group in Houston, helping with the reorganization of USX Corp. and formation of MRO as a standalone company.
Stover was then the European business unit subsurface and business planning manager in Aberdeen, Scotland, returning to Houston in 2005 to become East Texas/North Louisiana asset manager. In 2006, he took on responsibility of include MRO’s Oklahoma oil and gas properties.
In 2009, Stover became director of central evaluation and financial planning. In 2011, he became Midcontinent asset manager.
