Shell has reportedly agreed to sell a Nigeria pipeline considered by some to be the world’s most eligible target for crude oil theft.

The sale, reported by the Guardian to be $5.2 billion, includes four onshore oil and gas fields in the Niger delta. The London newspaper quoted analysts who suggested the final price would be closer to $3 billion.

Oil spills, sabotage and industrial-scale theft from Nigerian wells and pipelines cost producers up to 150,000 bbl/d.
