Scott Environmental Services Inc.created a custom geophysical testing laboratory that bench-scale tests its solid drilling waste management processes, the company said May 21.
Firmus and DuroSM are in situ remediation field technologies that catch and sometimes immobilize contaminants. Firmus and DuroSM prepare mud and cuttings through solidification and stabilization. They use safe disposal methods, the company said.
Streamlined treatability studies, such as sampling and testing, job design and/or treatment optimization can be carried out in the in-house laboratory on projects using Firmus and DuroSM processes. Having the lab in-house means that these tests can be completed in weeks rather than months.
The engineers have real-time data now, allowing them to adjust the treatability technique for specific situations during processing, said Blake Scott, president. Besides reducing testing and treatment times and costs, Scott said, having real-time data can also shorten the time the drilling waste is exposed to the environment. This reduces risk factors to operators and communities, he added.
Scott Environmental Services Inc. is based in Longview, Texas.
