Repsol is planning to spud its first wildcat well offshore southern Africa’s Namibia during the first quarter of 2014 according to one senior official at the country’s state oil company NAMCOR.
The Spanish operator plans to drill a probe on the Welwitschia prospect well in the Walvis Basin, in partnership with London-based Tower Resources. Manfriedt Muundjua, a senior exploration and production official at NAMCOR, said it would be spudded in February or March, according to Reuters.
Muundjua also said Chariot Oil and Gas was looking to drill its Central Block in Walvis Bay in the latter half of 2014, although this depended on them finding a partner.
BP has a 30% stake in Block 2513 in Luderitz Bay – farmed out by Serica Energy last year to help the company meet the costs of 3D seismic data – and Muundjua said they were also expected to drill before the end of next year.
