Malaysia's state-owned Petronas may consider relocating its Canadian LNG export terminal project, state news agency Bernama said on Feb. 13, quoting Chairman Mohamad Sidek Hassan.
He said Petronas would relocate the $27 billion Pacific NorthWest LNG project if the Canadian authorities find the move necessary.
Petronas holds a majority stake in the project, which has received criticism from environmental groups and aboriginal communities who say it will increase greenhouse-gas emissions and destroy a critical salmon habitat.
Media reports said Petronas had identified a new location for the plant to cut costs and address environmental concerns.
