An exploration probe operated by ConocoPhillips off the west coast of Australia has hit multiple gas-charged reservoirs, according to partner Karoon Gas.
The Proteus-1 well in the Browse Basin hit an 87 m (285 ft) gross interval with high net pay penetrated. The logging program indicates multiple gas charged reservoirs within the Jurassic, according to Karoon, with a drill stem test to start this week.
The presence of movable hydrocarbons in good quality Jurassic reservoir units is supported by petrophysical log interpretation, formation pressure gradients and gas samples recovered to the surface. The logging program is near completion and the Joint Venture will conduct a production test over the coming weeks, added Karoon.
Success with Proteus-1 builds on significant gas discoveries in the Boreas-1, Kronos-1 and Zephryos-1 wells drilled earlier in the current drilling campaign.
