ARKEX completed a BlueQube airborne gravity gradiometry survey in Kenya for Tullow Oil Plc. The survey ranks amongst one of the larger airborne full-tensor gravity gradiometer (FTG) surveys flown to date, according to the company.
The total survey area covered blocks 12A, 10A and 10BA that surround Lake Turkana in Northwest Kenya.
Part of the East African Rift, the Turkana Rift Basin shares many geological attributes with the Lake Albert Rift Basin in Uganda; where Tullow has already had a number of major discoveries. The Kenyan acreage has shown good evidence of a live-oil system and the gravity gradiometry survey will help to provide an improved picture of the sub surface geology.
The survey data will be used to identify basement structures, and delineate fault trends and volcanics. The initial data processing is currently being fast tracked by ARKEX with final results due in November.
