Hydrocarbon measurement and process control company JP3 Measurement launched Verax VPATM, an optical vapor pressure analyzer which measures vapor pressure in condensate and crude oil in real time with no sample conditioning, before and during loading, the company said May 18.
Verax VPATM uses patented near-infrared optical spectroscopy and advanced communications to provide real-time data. This is the first in-line, field-deployable vapor pressure analyzer, the company added.
Using Verax VPATM, operators can ensure that volatility has reached safe transportation levels for rail transport. Probes placed directly in the pipeline at operating pressure and temperature will eliminate paraffin clogging. The VPA returns measurements every 30 seconds, the company added.
The unit works on loading skids and stations and uses 24 volts of DC power.
Between 2008 and 2013, the number of crude oil originated rail car loads increased to almost 400,000 from 9,500, according to the Association of American Railroads.
“The Verax VPA is the first technology focused on giving operators more control over the crude and condensate that is being transported on rail or over the road. We are pleased to provide this new analyzer for the oil and gas markets, not only to increase economic efficiency but also to reduce the level of risk during transportation,” Matt Thomas, president and CEO of JP3.
JP3 Measurement LLC is based in Austin, Texas.
