Halliburton Co. officially opened its Elmendorf South Texas sand plant in early December, the company said Jan. 13. Representatives from Halliburton, the city of Elmendorf, Texas, and Alamo Junction Rail Park companies attended the official opening.
The $35.7 million plant is the largest Halliburton sand facility in the world. The plant, at the Alamo Junction Rail Park in Elmendorf, has eight silos and a laboratory. It is about seven miles from the company’s South Texas operations center in southern Bexar County. It can offload 150 rail cars and load 450 to 500 trucks daily.
Paul Sheppard, vice president for Halliburton’s southeast area, said the company now has a long-term advantage in the South Texas market.
Neil Schmidt, senior district manager for Halliburton’s San Antonio district, said it will support the market and Eagle Ford Shale customers.
Halliburton Co. is based in Houston.
