Fugro (OTC: FURGF) was awarded a US$100 million five-year contract by Total E&P Congo for ROV services and remote subsea tooling in the Moho Nord Field, Fugro Subsea Services Ltd. said April 1.
Moho Nord is about 75 km off the coast of the Republic of Congo’s Pointe Noire.
A total of four 200-horsepower FCV 3000 work-class ROV systems and innovative BOP tooling will be installed on three mobile drilling units and one field support vessel. Three ROVs from Fugro’s Singapore base are now operating in Moho Nord. There are two on ultradeepwater drillships that will work in about 1,200 m of water. The fourth system will be installed on a semisubmersible vessel, which is under construction in China and expected to join operations with its ROV later this year.
Fugro designed the ROVs with a BOP skid, for BOP intervention and testing. The skid itself can be used to operate the BOP in line with Total’s requirements, the company added. The ROVs inject glycol into the BOP to prevent hydrate buildup.
The ROVs will also drill reentry and perform bullseye checks, video monitoring, inspection, cleaning, intervention and alignment control during manifold installation. The ROV on the field support vessel installed transponder arrays, Fugro added.
Each ship has three ROV personnel for 12-hour coverage. Fugro is expanding its existing Pointe Noire base to provide operational, maintenance and repair services. It is also training FCV ROVs and tooling for expatriate and Congolese personnel.
