Denver-based Fracture ID has unveiled technology designed to measure and analyze vibrations as the drillbit crushes rock in an effort to improve frac stage and perf cluster placement.
In a news release, the company called its Drillbit Geomechanics a “low-cost solution for engineered completions.” The technology uses an industry standard downhole data logger to collect data from which measurements are made and fracture locations pinpointed.
Fracture ID CEO Chris Neale said Drillbit Geomechanics is used by E&Ps to “group similarly stressed rock so more fractures are initiated in every frac stage. This additional fracture surface area increases production rates and ultimate recovery with no negative impact on completions cost.”
