Enterprise Products Partners LP (EPD) and Enbridge Inc. announced on July 3 that the Seaway Pipeline loop from Cushing, Okla., to the Jones Creek storage and terminal facility near Freeport, Texas, totaling 512 miles, is mechanically complete. The pipeline loop is 30 inches wide and is expected to more than double the Seaway system’s capacity, to 850,000 barrels per day. The Seaway Pipeline system is owned by a 50/50 joint venture between EPD and Enbridge called Seaway Crude Pipeline Co. LLC. Besides the pipeline, the system includes a terminal and distribution network originating in Texas City, Texas, which serves local and Houston-area refineries. The system also includes dock facilities at Freeport and Texas City.
The Jones Creek facility is connected to Enterprise’s ECHO crude oil storage facility in Houston, via a 36-inch, 65-mile pipeline. Completion of a 30-inch, 100-mile pipeline from ECHO to Beaumont/Port Arthur, Texas, is expected in July. Commissioning of the completed loop and the new pipeline from ECHO to Beaumont/Port Arthur will continue through the third quarter.
