Long-term licenses to import U.S. natural gas and to export Canadian LNG were granted to Pieridae Energy (Canada) Ltd. by Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB), the company said Aug. 17. The licenses were issued on Aug. 13 in response to Pieridae’s Oct. 24, 2014 application to the NEB.
The natural gas imported from the U.S. and LNG from Canadian sources will be processed at the proposed Goldboro LNG facility in Goldboro, Nova Scotia. Europe and other countries will receive the exported LNG, the company added.
The export license’s term is 20 years, starting from date of first export. The maximum annual capacity is 16.675 billion cubic meters (Bcm). The import license also has a 20-year term, starting from the date of first import. Its maximum annual volume is 11.845 Bcm, the company said.
Pieridae also has a 20-year sales agreement to deliver about 5 million metric tonnes per year of LNG from Goldboro with Europe-based E.ON Global Commodities SE, a subsidiary of an investor-owned power and gas company.
In May, affiliate Pieridae Energy (USA) Ltd. received authorization to export natural gas to Canada for end use there, and for further export to Free Trade Agreement countries, from the U.S. Department of Energy.
A final investment decision on the Goldboro LNG project will be made in 2016, Pieridae said.
Alfred Sorensen, president and CEO, said Pieridae plans to complete its supply acquisition this year.
