Bourbon has commissioned three next-generation heavy duty work ROVs (Remote Operated Vehicles) designed by FMC Technologies Schilling Robotics, all capable of working in water depths of up to 3,000 m (9,843 ft).
The highly maneuverable ROVs will be deployed on Multi-Purpose Support Vessels (MPSV) such as the company’s Bourbon Evolution 800 series. They can carry up to 3,000 kg of special measurement or intervention tools, and Bourbon says they are ideal for activities such as survey, wellhead installation, or asset tie-in.
Most of Bourbon’s ROVs are deployed in Mediterranean waters, off West Africa, and soon in the Far East. For example, three ROVs are operating in Italian waters for Eni on survey and inspection missions, with a further five off West Africa under contract with Total and Saipem for survey, Inspection, Maintenance, Reparation and construction missions.
Bourbon has since 2009 been expanding its fleet of HD Work ROVs, working with FMC Technologies Schilling Robotics. Three other units will be further added to the fleet by the end of this year, taking the total up to 18 units, including 11 Work-class ROVs.
