1 Amerexx Energy Inc., West Palm Beach, Fla., plans to drill a remote wildcat in the White River Valley, Nevada, 65 miles south-southwest of Ely. The #11-14 Graham will be drilled in Section 14-5n-61e, Nye County, 27 miles southeast of the nearest production in the Railroad Valley's Grant Canyon Field. It has a projected depth of 3,550 ft. This is one of three wildcats proposed by Amerexx in the area. Reno-based Westwood Petroleum LLC also plans a remote wildcat in northeastern Nevada 16 miles south of Wells. The #1 Dalton is projected to a depth of 3,000 ft. There has been no previous drilling within a 15-mile radius of the well. 2 The Bureau of Land Management approved 3-D seismic exploration on public lands 25 miles southeast of Moab, Utah, in northeastern San Juan County. The seismic shoot will help pinpoint oil deposits near the Paradox Basin's Lisbon Valley Field. The exploration project will cover 37 sq. mi. of BLM land, as well as land administered by the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration and other governmental bodies. 3 On the southern flank of the Paradox Basin, some 3.5 miles west-southwest of Blanding, Utah, Birdwell Oil Management of Alabama LLC is drilling its wildcat #1-6 BOMA-Federal, San Juan County. The well, in Section 6-37s-22e, has a projected depth of 8,200 ft. In 1988, Samedan Oil Corp. completed a well in Wild Stallion Field eight miles east-northeast of the wildcat that produced gas and condensate at 6,242-6,308 ft. 4 True Oil and Burlington Resources are drilling and permitting numerous wells in Rosebud County, Mont., specifically in the 6-8n, 38-40e area, according to the Rocky Mountain Oil Journal. Speculation is that these wells will attempt to capture gas in the Upper Cretaceous Phillips sandstone from 1,540 to 2,580 ft. True Oil has drilled eight holes in the area (the Swanson #32-3 in Section 3-7n-38e; the Martens #23-4 in Section 4-7n-38e; the Swanson #24-11 in Section 11-7n-38e; the Pindell #33-19 in Section 19-7n-39e; the Anchor Island #22-28 in Section 28-7n-39e; the Island #32-29 in Section 29-7n-39e; the Pindell #33-30 in Section 30-7n-39e; and, the Sands State #23-32 in Section 32-7n-39e) and staked seven additional wells. Burlington has drilled two holes (the Porcupine Ranch #34-33 in Section 33-8n-39e and the Porcupine Ranch #23-8 in Section 8-7n-39e) and staked two holes. The nearest production to the area is 33 miles west at Wolf Springs Field, which has produced more than 5 million bbl. of oil equivalent since its discovery in 1955. 5 Continental Resources Inc. received permits to drill three exploratory tests in 141n-100w, Billings County-the #1-20H Diamond-Federal "B" in Section 20; the #1-29H Butte in Section 29; and the #1-32H Diamond-Federal "A" in Section 32-in the Billings Nose, nine miles northeast of Medora, N.D. The prospective drillsites are in a two- to three-mile gap between the Whiskey Joe Field to the east and the T.R. Field to the west. 6 The Bureau of Land Management approved Questar Exploration & Production Co.'s request to drill during the winter in an area of Sublette County, Wyo. (section 33-33n-109w) that is designated mule deer crucial winter range. To accommodate the six wells planned with no additional surface disturbance, it is necessary to drill the wells consecutively, a project that could take more than 285 days. The BLM and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's review of the request noted that the directional drilling of six wells from one pad, along with one access road to the site and the centralization of production facilities would result in 75% less surface disturbance compared to six individual wellsites. 7 EnCana Oil & Gas Inc. is planning a 14,000-ft. wildcat in the Great Divide Basin of southern Wyoming 17 miles southwest of Bairoil at the 6-1 Cimallano Unit, ne sw 1-25n-93w, in northeastern Sweetwater County. Williams Production RMT Co. has applied for a drilling permit for a 12,500-ft. wildcat, the 10-7 Gastech-Federal County, Section 7-25n-90w, also in the northeastern part of the county, in the Great Divide Basin seven miles south of Bairoil. These wildcats are being drilled southwest of the Lost Solider field, which has produced more than 252 million bbl of oil and 424 billion cu. ft. of gas since its discovery in 1916. 8 Samson Resources Co. spudded a wildcat, the #11-36 State, Section 36-21n-117w, in the Absaroka Thrust area six miles west-southwest of Kemmerer, Wyo., according to IHS Energy Group. The Lincoln County well is expected to reach total depth of 4,800 ft. The area is six miles southwest of the Lazeart Field discovery, which produced less than 1,400 bbl of oil. The nearby Elkol Field discovery to the south-southeast had noncommercial production as well. 9 A remote wildcat is planned in Albany County, Wyo., by Huntington Energy LLC. The #1-20 Shaffer, Section 20-21n-76w, will be a 4,000-ft. test in the northern part of the Laramie Basin, about 35 miles northwest of Laramie. The proposed site is seven miles east-northeast of Diamond Dome Field, nine miles east of Little Medicine Bow Field, and 12 miles northeast of Rock River Field. The area was discovered in 1934 and has produced from several different zones. 10 A stepout from the Double Eagle Field discovery has been completed 12 miles southwest of Naturita, Colo., by Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. The operator is building production facilities for the #1-13 Fossil-Federal well, in Section 13-44n-17w, northwestern San Miguel County. The well has been directionally drilled to a total depth of 9,908 ft. and cased to 9,907 ft. The Burlington Resources Oil & Gas #5 Fossil Federal is nearly a mile northwest of the new well. It was completed in 1999 and flows more than 8.1 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Cabot is very active in the area, with additional wells in the Double Eagle Federal Exploratory Unit, and locations staked for several more delineation tests in the vicinity. 11 Advantage Resources Inc. spudded a new DJ Basin wildcat in the Nebraska Panhandle seven miles northeast of Dix, Neb. The #14-28 Dalton, in Section 28-16n-53w, northeastern Kimball County, is being drilled to 5,775 ft. The well is 1.5 miles southwest of abandoned Leafdale Field, which produced 289,800 bbl. of oil and 74 million cu. ft. of gas during its history. 12 Donald A. Evans applied for a state drilling permit for a wildcat on the southeastern flank of the San Juan Basin 12 miles north of Cuba, N.M., in Sandoval County, according to IHS Energy Group. The #1 Hazel (Section 22-23n-1w) is less than two miles from Pictured Cliffs gas production in Blanco South Field. 13 ConocoPhillips Alaska applied for three additional drilling permits for winter exploratory prospects on the North Slope and west of the Kuparuk River Unit. The Titania prospect is on Kuukpik Corp. lands in Section 23-10n-5e, Umiat Meridian, five miles east-southeast of Nuiqsut, south of the Colville River Unit boundary in the Alpine Field area. The Oberon project is on state land, west of the Kuparuk River Unit and north of the SE Delta exploration unit. The Placer project, also on state land, is on land recently added to the Kuparuk River Unit southwest of the Palm discovery. ConocoPhillips has also reactivated a 2001 permit to drill the Cronus exploratory well at Section 4-8n-6e, west of Kuparuk, about six miles southwest of the company's Atlas prospect. Phillips drilled the #1 Atlas to a total depth of 7,335 ft. in Section 11-9n-6e. The well and a sidetrack, the #1A Atlas, were both drilled and subsequently plugged and abandoned. 14 The Cook Inlet area of Alaska will be the site of significant seismic and geochemical activity in the near future. WesternGeco will shoot 36 sq. mi. of 3-D seismic for Marathon Oil Co. on federal, state, Kenai Peninsula borough, native and private parcels. Pangaea Geochemical Technologies will deploy two two-man teams to collect 350 to 500 one-liter soil vapor samples in the North Fork area of the Southern Kenai Penninsula for Unocal Alaska Resources. Other projects planned in the area include onshore and offshore 2-D and 3-D seismic data program by Fairweather Geophysical/Veritas DGS. Twelve to 14 weeks of work are planned to cover Anchor Point, Cook Inlet east, Cook Inlet north and the Forelands. Aurora Gas LLC is in discussion with the state of Alaska for 25 line miles of 2-D seismic in the Soldotna area.
