1 PYR Energy Corp., Denver, reports Berkley Petroleum Corp. penetrated 2,474 ft. of Miocene Temblor objective, with a net sand interval of 1,410 ft., while drilling to a total depth of 19,724 ft. at the #1 Berkley East Lost Hills in Section 6-26s-21e MD, Kern County, Calif. Calgary-based Berkley plans to run a production liner to total depth and begin production testing at the potential gas discovery. Gas and condensate were flared on four separate occasions from the current openhole section, extending from 18,280 ft. to total depth, while the wildcat was being drilled with mud weights in excess of 17 pounds per gallon. PYR owns a 10.575% working interest in the prospect. 2 An announcement by Ivanhoe Energy Inc., Vancouver, reveals the company has developed an initial program to drill up to 25 exploration tests during the next two years in western Kern County. The planned tests will target prospective oil and gas reservoirs at depths ranging between 1,000 ft. and 18,000 ft., with the first test expected to start this month. The company says it has acquired interests in 300,000 acres of prime exploration land associated with non-producing acreage around and under major oil fields. Present plans provide for one, and possibly two, of the 25 wells to test Ivanhoe's deep-gas prospects on the northwestern extension of the East Lost Hills structure, where the Berkley Petroleum Corp. #1 Berkley East Lost Hills is located. A large exploration block on which Ivanhoe holds a minimum working interest of 47% is two miles north of the Berkley prospect. The initial drilling program will cost approximately $60 million. Ivanhoe's share of the cost and its working interest in each test will range between 12.5% and 100%, to be determined with its partners before each test is drilled. Additionally, Ivanhoe says its 3-D seismic program on an 83,000-acre block in and around existing oil fields is expected to generate a considerable number of new drilling prospects. 3 An indicated Ordovician Red River discovery is being completed by Billings independent Nance Petroleum Corp. at the #13-30 Harmon in (Lot4) Section 30-27n-58e, Roosevelt County, Montana. IHS Energy Group reports Nance recovered (reversed out) 4,075 ft. of highly gas cut oil with water cushion on a drillstem test of the Red River "C" burrowed zone at 12,594-12,660 ft. The sample chamber held 1,200 cc of oil and 3.93 cu. ft. of gas. 4 Gas flowed at a rate of 1.99 million cu. ft. per day at an Upper Cretaceous Eagle Sand discovery completed by J. Burns Brown Operating Co., Havre, Mont., in Blaine County, Mont. The 1,555-ft. #19-35-18B Wallin, Section 19-35n-18e, is producing through perforations at 1,085-1,151 ft. 5 Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Operating Inc. is nearing 4,900 ft. at the #1-16 Vesterhy-State, a wildcat it's drilling in Section 16-35n-56e, Sheridan County, Mont. Projected depth is 11,100 ft. at the venture that's designed to evaluate Red River, says IHS Energy Group. 6 Documents released at a recent hearing held by the North Dakota Industrial Commission show that the Armstrong Operating Inc. #14-1 Schilke in Divide County, N.D., is a Mississippian Ratcliffe discovery. Armstrong, of Dickinson, N.D., pumped 344 bbl. of oil and 16 bbl. of water, with 128,000 cu. ft. of gas per day at the new-field opener, in Section 14-160n-98w, reports the Rocky Mountain Oil Journal. The 8,100-ft. probe is producing through perforations at 7,810-16 ft. 7 Upper Cretaceous Lance gave up a flow of 2.44 million cu. ft. of gas, 12 bbl. of condensate and 73 bbl. of water per day at the #13-16 Gannett, a discovery completed by Anschutz Exploration Corp., Denver, in Sublette County, Wyo. IHS Energy Group reports Anschutz perforated five intervals between 8,460-12,223 ft. at the well, drilled in Section 16-33n-109w. 8 Barrett Resources Corp., Denver, pumped oil at the rate of 253 bbl. per day at its Pennsylvanian Minnelusa discovery, the #31-6 Duvall in Section 6-49n-69w, Campbell County, Wyo. The discovery is producing through perforations at 8,555-73 ft. in Minnelusa Upper "B" Sand. Barrett is waiting on completion tools at an 8,782-ft. southeast offset. 9 A horizontal Cretaceous Niobrara interval yielded oil at the rate of 209 bbl. per day on pump at a discovery completed by Abraxas Petroleum Corp., San Antonio, in Converse County, Wyo. The #4H-16-18-67 Turner, Section 16-38n-67w, was tested through a perforated liner set from 8,220 ft. to 12,267 ft., measured total depth, in Niobrara. 10 Initial pump gauge was 120 bbl. of oil and 28 bbl. of water per day at the #3-30 NW Morel-Federal, a Minnelusa discovery completed by Westech Energy Corp. in Section 30-54n-68w, Crook County, Wyo. Westech, based in Denver, directionally drilled the wildcat to a measured total depth of 7,281 ft. and tested through perforations at 7,090-95 ft. 11 Marathon Oil Co., Houston, completed an outpost-the #1-29 Willow Creek-flowing 2.707 million cu. ft. of gas and 13 bbl. of water per day to extend Wyoming's Dripping Rock Field a mile to the southwest. Located in Section 29-14n-94w, Sweetwater County, the exploratory test was directionally drilled to a total depth of 12,950 ft. It's producing from the Almond member of Cretaceous Mesaverde at 12,699-12,710 ft.
