1 Mica Energy Corp., Oklahoma City, received a permit for a wildcat in Section 20 of nonproducing township 2s-25w in Norton County, Kan., less than two miles northeast of Norcatur. The #1 Connell is scheduled to 3,800 ft. to Precambrian granite and will evaluate potential production from Lansing-Kansas City, Arbuckle and Reagan on the way. The nearest production is four miles southwest in one-well Nada Field, where the #1-12 Guy R. Sturvey was completed in 1985 from five Lansing-Kansas City zones between 3,527 and 3,637 ft. for noncommercial amounts of oil. The closest commercial production is five miles east. 2 Downing-Nelson Oil Co. Inc., Hays, Kan., drilled a pair of discoveries in eastern Trego County, Kan., on the Central Kansas Uplift between five and six miles southwest of Ellis. The company's #1-28 Sherfick, in Section 28-13s-21w, was completed pumping 123 bbl. of oil per day from an unreported interval in Cherokee, according to IHS Energy. The 3,950-ft. well is about 0.66-mile southeast of the nearest production. That was an abandoned one-well discovery that was completed in 1982 for 60 bbl. of oil a day from Lansing-Kansas City perforations between 3,652 and 3,720 ft. The second wildcat is 1.5 miles southwest of the #1-28 Sherfick. That well, the #1-29 Honas, in Section 29 of the same township and range, initially pumped at a rate of 70 bbl. of oil per day from Lansing-Kansas City above the 4,100-ft. total depth. 3 An eastern Arkoma Basin wildcat has been drilled by Seeco Inc., Fayetteville, Ark. The company set casing at its #1-10 Smith, proposed to Borum at 6,500 ft. but drilled to 6,000 ft., in Section 10 of nonproducing township 5n-26w in southern Logan County, Ark. Only six wells have been drilled in the township, and the only well to recover hydrocarbons was nearly three miles west-southwest, where the #1 USA tested up to 850,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Atoka perforations between 5,109-22 ft., according to IHS Energy. Seeco has been drilling about four miles east in Waveland Field in western Yell County. 4 A Texas County, Okla., new-pool discovery tested at an initial rate of 4.5 million cu. ft. of gas a day for operator ConocoPhillips Co. The #3 Jerry is in Section 18-2n-12ecm, about nine miles north of Texhoma in the Oklahoma Panhandle. It produces from acidized Douglas between 4,270-83 ft. The major tested the well through a 12/64-in. choke with 550 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Although a lot of wells in the area produce from Permian zones in the greater Guymon-Hugoton gas area and from the Morrow in Rice East Field, there is no production from Douglas in the area. 5 EOG Resources Inc., Houston, completed a Morrow discovery for 600,000 cu. ft. of gas a day more than three miles south of Hooker in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The 15 #1 Toto is in Section 15-4n-17ecm, Texas County. EOG drilled the well to 7,200 ft. and tested Morrow between 6,253-56 ft. following a light acid treatment. Tests were conducted through a 32/64-in. choke with 120 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Production tests in Mississippian some 500 ft. deeper did not prove up commercial hydrocarbons. Most of the production nearby is from Permian zones. The nearest pre-Permian well is 1.5 miles west-southwest in Hooker Southwest Field. In that field, the #1 Petrowsky produced 460 bbl. of oil during a month of testing in the Morrow. 6 Sullivan & Co. LLC, Tulsa, completed an Osage County, Okla., discovery about 4.5 miles east-southeast of Ralston for 268 bbl. of oil and 13,000 cu. ft. of gas a day with no water. The #5 Osage is in Section 10-23n-6e. Sullivan tested the well from Upper Simpson between 3,185-98 ft. and from Hominy (Lower Simpson) from 3,268-74 ft. after acidizing both formations. The well tested 175 bbl. of oil and 9,000 cu. ft. of gas a day before the acid treatment. The discovery is 0.75-mile north of production in Sunny Slope Northeast Field, which has produced 617,000 bbl. of oil from 21 wells since its discovery in 1956. 7 A retest of a southeastern New Mexico workover led to an 800,000-cu.-ft.-per-day producer for Asher Enterprises Ltd. Co., Artesia, N.M. The company's #2 Lawton State, in Section 10-13s-33e, Lea County, also produced 30 bbl. of condensate and three bbl. of water a day from acidized Atoka between 11,340-80 ft. through a 16/64-in. choke with 500 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The company had drilled the well in 1952 as the #2 Gulf State, when it flowed 1.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 112 bbl. of condensate a day from 13,080 ft. Cumulative production from that lower zone has been 38.4 million cu. ft. of gas and 2,754 bbl. of condensate. 8 Marbob Energy Corp., Artesia, found 1.3 million cu. ft. of gas a day from a Morrow wildcat in southeastern Eddy County, N.M., more than three miles southwest of Loving. The #1 Edsel's Hand Waver Fee also produced 142 bbl. of water a day through acidized and fractured perforations between 12,533-41 ft. The 12,820-ft. well is in Section 5-24s-28e. Marbob completed its #1 Neffs Close-Ology Fee last summer about a third-mile south. That well tested at 1.5 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Morrow. 9 Roberts County, Texas, gave up another discovery for Range Production Co., Fort Worth, about 19 miles southeast of Spearman in the Texas Panhandle. The #1-134 Courson Ranch, in Section 134, Block C, G&M Survey, A-559, flowed 95 bbl. of oil, 180,000 cu. ft. of gas and three bbl. of water a day from Upper Morrow between 8,414-22 ft. and between 8,424-33 ft. The rate was measured through an 8/64-in. choke with 550 psi of flowing tubing pressure. According to IHS Energy, the well apparently has two deeper pay zones isolated by bridge plugs. The company hasn't revealed test results for those zones. Last April, Range completed a well a mile northwest of the new well. That well extended the company's Courson Ranch Field by 0.75-mile northwest. Range has a strong drilling program in the area. 10 Cimarex Energy Co., Denver, has staked a wildcat 6.5 miles north of Quanah and a mile south of the Oklahoma border in Hardeman County, Texas. The #1 Durham Farms is in Section 2, GC&SF Survey, A-1079, and is scheduled to 8,700 ft. to evaluate formations through Mississippian Chappel. The nearest production is two miles south-southeast in Full Interest Field. The #1 Bottoms "11" in that field tested at 485 bbl. of oil from Chappel at 8,531-39 ft. and recovered 175,000 bbl. of oil and 13 million cu. ft. of gas with 443,000 bbl. of water in nine years. Cimarex abandoned its #1 Parker well about 0.75-mile northeast. 11 Gunn Oil Co., Wichita Falls, Texas, has set pipe and was waiting on completion equipment at press deadline at its #1 Masterson "PN" in northeastern King County, Texas. The company drilled the well to 6,250 ft. in the abandoned Final Blow Field area on a 640-acre lease in Section 1, H&GN Survey, A-332, about 15 miles north-northeast of Guthrie and about a mile south of the Cottle County boundary line. A half-mile south in the same section, the #1G T.B. Masterson Estate, which opened Final Blow Field, tested at 7 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Atoka Conglomerate between 6,054-66 ft. It produced 890.5 million cu. ft. of gas, 12,112 bbl. of condensate and 1,260 bbl. of water from 1979-98. 12 Graham, Texas, independent Bettis, Boyle & Stovall received a permit for a wildcat in southeastern Kent County, Texas, approximately 10 miles south of Jayton. The company plans to drill its #1 Baldridge to 4,700 ft. in Section 12, Block A, PSL Survey, A-1441. Nearby wells are generally deeper, but the #2 Baldridge, about three miles east in Mesquite Grove Field, was completed in Tannehill from 4,194 to 4,202 ft. 13 A Ward County, Texas, wildcat has been scheduled by EGL Resources, Midland, in the area of Lockridge Field about a mile north of the Reeves County line. The #1 Lado Del Rio will drill to 5,300 ft. in Section 14, Block 33, H&TC Survey, A-1397, about 10 miles south of Pyote. This well is a southwest offset to a 20,356-ft. Lockridge Field well, the #1 Jack Frost, in the same section. The nearest production from Delaware is in Pyote South Field some 2.67 miles northeast, where production comes from Cherry Canyon at about 6,700 ft. Occidental Permian Ltd., Midland, the operator of Lockridge Field, also plans a horizontal test in the field. The #2H H.B. Morrison is scheduled to a vertical depth of 16,500 ft. in Devonian. 14 Trilogy Operating Inc., Midland, made a discovery with an Ellenburger wildcat in Section 54, Block 1, T&P Survey, A-37, about 15 miles northeast of Big Lake in Reagan County, Texas, and about 1.75 miles west of the Irion County boundary line. The #1 Maradona tested 70 bbl. of oil and 85,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from perforations between 9,628-37 ft. The discovery is surrounded by Spraberry Trend wells. There are no Ellenburger wells in the area, but a well in Sledgehammer Field a mile northwest produces from Fusselman perforations between 9,497 and 9,568 ft. 15 Bluegrass Energy Inc., Tulsa, is drilling the #1-75 Simpson Canyon wildcat nearly two miles northeast of Iraan in northwestern Crockett County, Texas. The well is scheduled to 3,200 ft. in Section 76, Block 1, I&GN Survey, A-557, about a mile northeast of the Pecos County line. The company recently abandoned the #1-32 Simpson 0.75-mile east-southeast. That well was planned as a 7,800-ft. Ellenburger test, according to IHS Energy.
