1 Oxy USA Inc., Los Angeles, picked up permits to drill two new Hugoton Embayment wildcats, both within 15 miles of Ulysses in northeastern Grant County, Kan. The #1 Ladner "G" is in Section 11-27s-35w, about a mile northeast of the other wildcat, the #1 Trafton "C" in Section 14-27s-35w. Both wells will target Mississippian at about 6,000 ft. and both apparently follow up work after Oxy's Morrow well that opened Ladner Field about 1.5 miles northwest last summer. That well, the #1 Ladner "F" in Section 13-27s-35w, produced 31,702 bbl. of oil in its first nine months online, according to IHS Energy. 2 The #A1 Jones, in Section 15-8s-23w, Graham County, Kan., gave Pioneer Resources Inc., Phillipsburg, Kan., a discovery that tested at 130 bbl. of oil per day with no gas or water. The Central Kansas Uplift well produced after a light acid treatment from Kansas City perforations between 3,639-44 ft.. The well is about a mile west of Hill City and a half-mile northeast of the easternmost well in Higer Northeast Field, where Pioneer's #1 Jones, Section 16-8s-23w, tested at 42 bbl. of oil per day two years ago. 3 Castle Resources Inc., Schoenchen, Kan., completed an exploration well pumping 100 bbl. of oil per day with no gas or water some 4.5 miles east-northeast of McCracken in Rush County, Kan. The #1 Baldwin-Littler, in Section 6-17s-19w, produced from untreated Arbuckle between 3,794.5-97.5 ft. The well is an east offset to an abandoned 1968 discovery that pumped 128 bbl. of oil per day from a 5-ft. open-hole section of Arbuckle and recovered 45,000 bbl. of oil during 26 years onstream. 4 Range Oil Co. Inc., Wichita, staked a wildcat on the Nemaha Anticline in southern Kansas. The #1 Stucky "C," in Section 7-23s-5e in southeastern Marion County, is scheduled to 2,450 ft. to evaluate the Mississippian for oil. The well is about two miles southwest of Burns, Kan., and 1.75 miles southwest of Burns Field, which has produced more than 51,000 bbl. of oil from five Mississippian wells drilled to 2,400 ft. 5 The Houston Exploration Co. tested its #7 James Wood development well at Booneville Field, in Section 11-6n-28w in southwestern Logan County, Ark., for 40.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The well tested 20.8 million cu. ft. per day of gas from Upper Borum "B" fractured perforations between 4,955 ft. and 5,022 ft. It tested another 19.6 million cu. ft. per day of gas from Upper Borum "A" fractures in two intervals between 4,703 ft.and 4,827 ft. Both tests were conducted through a 28/64-in. choke with flowing tubing pressure of 1,050 psi from the "A" and 1,100 psi from the "B." Houston Exploration is working five prospects in the area of the Booneville and Chismville fields and has permits for 17 more wells. Booneville Field has produced 101.2 billion cu. ft. of gas from Pennsylvanian intervals since its discovery in 1957, said IHS Energy. 6 A Sebastian County, Ark., wildcat is being readied for completion as Freedom Energy Inc., Fort Smith, set 41/2-in. casing to the Pennsylvanian Hartford sands at 6,900 ft. at its #1 Blackjack Ridge in Section 22-5n-30w. The apparent producer is a mile north-northwest of a 1981 Hartford sand producer completed in 1981 on the northern flank of Mansfield Field. That well, the #C-1 Glass, has recovered 1.1 billion cu. ft. of gas and has produced at 100,000 to 120,000 cu. ft. of gas per day for the past nine years. 7 Calebs Resources LLC, Edmond, received a permit to drill a 14,000-ft. Morrow-Springer exploration well in the Antelope Hills area of northwestern Oklahoma. The #3-1 Sovereign is in Section 1-16n-26w in northwestern Roger Mills County. On the way to Springer, the well will test potential production in Toronto at 7,400 ft., Douglas at 7,450 ft., Tonkawa at 8,100 ft., Cottage Grove at 8,800 ft., Hedlund at 9,300 ft., Cleveland at 9,500 ft., Oswego at 9,900 ft., Cherokee at 11,400 ft. and Atoka at 11,650 ft. Calebs has shallower producers in the area. The nearest Morrow production is three miles west of the new well where the Crawford Northwest Field discovery well tested at 8.5 million cu. ft. of gas a day from fractured lower Morrow. The well has produced 1.6 billion cu. ft. of gas in 17 years. 8 An ultradeep test to 21,500 ft. has been scheduled in Roger Mills County, Okla., about seven miles northwest of Cheyenne by The GHK Co. LLC, Oklahoma City. The #1-17 Turley, in Section 17-14n-24w, will evaluate formations through Hunton. So far, only two Hunton discoveries have been completed in the county. One of those, the #1 Lovett, is about 0.75-mile southeast of the GHK well. It cost $2.6 million, took 13 months to drill in 1970 and 1971, and was the deepest Hunton producer ever drilled, with estimated reserves of 33 billion cu. ft. of gas. After going onstream in 1975, it produced 1.2 billion cu. ft. of gas in 10 months, declined rapidly and was abandoned in 1978 after producing 1.7 billion cu. ft. of gas, according to IHS Energy. 9 Barite Rose Energy Inc., Oklahoma City, filed a spacing case with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to explore in a remote, lightly drilled region some 11 miles southeast of Atoka in Atoka County. It asked for 640-acre spacing for Section 10-3s-13e covering the Jackfork, Stanley, First Repeated Jackfork, First Repeated Stanley and Arkansas Noviculite. The nearest production from that depth was the #1 Anson, five miles northwest. It tested for 21 bbl. of oil, 116,000 cu. ft. of gas and 22 bbl. of water per day from Arkansas Noviculite at 7,101 ft.to 7,119 ft. It produced 1,338 bbl. of oil during its 13 months of production. 10 Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, staked a wildcat well in northern Chaves County, N.M., some 34 miles northeast of Roswell. The #1 Luther "BBN" Federal Com is scheduled to 5,800 ft. in Section 13-5s-25e. The nearest production to a similar depth is almost five miles east-southeast where the sole producer in Dos Ranchos Field gave up 37 million cu. ft. of gas, 26,301 bbl. of condensate and 53,547 bbl. of water from Montoya between 6,450 ft. and 6,462 ft. 11 Yates Petroleum Corp. has also permitted two wildcats in central Chaves County, some 15 miles west of Roswell near Comanche Field. The #1 Gasby "BCD" State Com is scheduled to 6,960 ft. in Section 20-10s-27e, and the #2 Loretta "BBO" State Com is permitted to 6,895 ft. in Section 19 of the same township. Yates has additional nearby production, some with details kept tight. More than a mile south-southeast of the Loretta well, Yates has production from Comanche Field. 12 Another remote wildcat has been scheduled by Yates Petroleum Corp. in Chaves County, N.M. It plans to drill the #1 Emjay "BBJ" Federal to 8,430 ft. about 17 miles southwest of Elida and 45 miles northeast of Roswell in Section 8-6s-29e. The nearest production was an 8,325-ft. Strawn well about 3.5 miles southwest where the #1 Newlin produced 372 bbl. of oil during its four months of production. 13 Ensign Operating Co., Denver, is drilling a remote wildcat nine miles southwest of Tatum in Lea County, N.M. The #1 Key "20" is in Section 20-13s-35e. It is scheduled to Mississippian at 13,900 ft. The nearest drilling is about a mile northwest at two abandoned tests, and the nearest previous production was from Austin Northwest Field some 2.66 miles east-southeast of the Ensign well. 14 Jones Energy Ltd., Austin, posted a discovery with its #2 City of Gruver horizontal well on the western edge of Gruver in Hansford County, Texas (Railroad Commission District 10). The well tested at 1.4 million cu. ft. a day from Permian Panhandle Lime and Krider in Section 3, Block 3, PSL Survey, A-1112. Jones tested the well through a 32/64-in. choke from an open-hole lateral interval from 2,931 ft.to 5,287 ft. (true vertical depths 2,930 ft. to 3,153 ft.), according to IHS Energy. The well is in an area of Upper and Lower Morrow production in the greater Hansford Field area. 15 Briar Energy Corp., Decatur, Texas, brought in the #1 Briar-Creek wildcat for 432 bbl. of oil with 1,200 cu. ft. of gas and 50 bbl. of water per day from acidized Lower Barnett Shale from 7,192-97 ft.
