1 Bakersfield operator Berry Petroleum Co. has staked five coalbed-methane wildcats in a nonproducing area of the Nemaha Uplift six miles south of Maple Hill, Kan. The eastern Wabaunsee County ventures will be drilled on Berry's SS Farms lease in Section 23-12s-12e, according to an IHS Energy Group report. There has been no previous production in this region of northeastern Kansas; however, 15 years ago three wildcats were drilled. The closest previous production is nine miles northwest in Paxico Field, which was discovered in 1965 and abandoned in 1979. The production consisted of a two-well Hunton pool that produced 2,451 bbl. of crude from 2,400 ft. 2 XTO Energy completed two high-volume producers in the northern Arkoma Basin 1.5 miles northwest of Dover, Ark. The Pope County wells, both in Section 17-9n-20w, include the #5-17 Garrison "C" which was tested flowing gas at 6.9 million cu. ft. per day. Total depth is 5,000 ft. Just 900 ft. south-southwest, the XTO #6-17 Garrison "C" produces 5.2 million cu. ft. of gas per day. These new wells are within 500 ft. of the 1964 discovery well for the New Hope Field. The 14 wells that make up New Hope Field have produced more than 12.7 billion cu. ft. of gas. 3 The Houston Exploration Co. completed two Borum development tests six miles northwest of Booneville, Ark., in Booneville Field. The #2 Yadon well, in Section 24-6n-29w, is producing 7.8 million cu. ft. of gas per day from the Borum. Its total depth is 6,500 ft. The #3-13 Fort Chaffee Federal Gas Unit, drilled 0.75-mile north-northeast in Section 13-6n-29w, Sebastian County, gauged an initial flow rate of 6.5 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Four other producers have worked this section of Booneville Field since it came online in 1958. More than 431 million cu. ft. of gas has been recovered. Three of the wells in the field operated by Houston average a combined 254,000 cu. ft. of gas daily. 4 Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Operating Inc.'s ultradeep #1-19 Cat Creek, in Section 19-10n-24w, Beckham County, eight miles west-northwest of Sayre, Okla. flowed 15.5 million cu. ft. of gas per day in early 2002, according to IHS Energy Group. The 24,860-ft. Anadarko Basin well has a slightly sour gas pay, with up to 300 parts per million H2S behind pipe in the Middle Hunton. The well is 0.5-mile northeast of the Hunton pay discovery in New Liberty Southwest Field. The lone producer, in Section 24-10n-25w, has recovered more than 9.7 billion cu. ft. of gas since it was completed in 1976. 5 Tex-Ok Energy LP completed a discovery 12 miles west-northwest of Knowles, Okla. The #1 High Voltage, in Section 31-6n-25ecm, Beaver County, flowed at the rate of 1.4 million cu. ft. of gas and 13 bbl. of 65-degree condensate per day. The 8,933-ft. well is in Mocane Northwest Field and is 0.5-mile northeast of the field's Viola pay discovery, the #10-1 Hodges in Section 1-5n-24ecm. The well was completed on pump to produce 22 bbl. of oil and 90,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. 6 BP America Production Co.'s #1 Nan well produced gas at the rate of 5.6 million cu. ft. per day. The Arkoma Basin well was directionally drilled at a surface location in Section 22-6n-20e, seven miles northeast of Wilburton, Okla. The well is in Red Oak-Norris Field about 0.5-mile southwest of a well that flowed 8.4 million cu. ft. of gas after being completed in 1965. The operator also completed the #3 Ida Hollie, Section 20-7n-23e. Gas flowed from this multi-zone producer at an initial rate of 2.9 million cu. ft. per day during tests of the Red Oak sand at 7,125-40 ft. and 7,455-70 ft. Tests of the Basal Atoka (Spiro) at 11,710-30 ft. yielded a flow rate of 2 million cu. ft. of gas daily. 7 In separate activity, BP completed a new well in its Ordovician drilling program in the western Arkoma Basin. The #6-19 Bennett State, in Section 19-5n-18e, was tested in the undifferentiated Simpson at 12,815-12,960 ft. flowing 56.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water per day. 8 Austin independent Jones Energy Ltd. completed a western Anadarko Basin discovery in the Section 178, Block 45, H&TC Survey, A-821, nine miles southwest of Spearman, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle. The #3178 Patten Unit well tested at 154 bbl. of 38-degree oil and 35,000 cu. ft. of gas per day on pump. It was perforated, acidized and fracture-simulated at 7,754-66 ft. Jones' test is near gas producers in Kennith, Patten and Collard fields, where the operator has an ongoing horizontal drilling program in the Permian. 9 Range Production Co. received a permit to drill its second wildcat in two months in an area of northern Roberts County, about 20 miles southeast of Spearman, Texas. The well, in Section 142 of Block C, G&M Survey, A-606, will be drilled to 9,700 ft. to test horizons through the Mississippian. It is 1.5 miles south of Cleveland oil production at 7,000 ft. in Horizon Field. Three miles to the north is the 1949 discovery for Lips Field. Several operators have recompleted that well over the years. 10 Key Energy of Colorado Inc. has permitted another in a series of horizontal redrills targeting the Mississippian Chappel Lime in the Hardeman Basin of North Texas, about 8 miles east-northeast of Quanah, Texas. The #1H McNabb-Atnip Unit will be drilled approximately 1,900 ft. to the south-southwest from its surface location in Section 28 of Block H, W&NW Survey, A-1205, Hardeman County. Key also plans the #1 H Eagle Flats Land & Cattle Co. Unit in Section 6, W.C. Edwards Survey, A-23. That test is a deepening of a western Wilbarger County test plugged in 1995. The previous operator drilled the test to 8,750 ft.; Key plans to deepen the prospect to 8,900 ft. Nearby, San Antonio-based Inland Ocean Inc. has permitted a test in central Hardeman County.
