1 Pennsylvanian Basal Atoka production in Arkansas' Ludwig Field was extended nearly a mile to the north when Shields Energy Inc., Fort Smith, tested a flow of 2.22 million cu. ft. of gas per day at the #1-11 Farrar. The successful outpost in Section 11-10n-23w, Johnson County, flowed on a 32/64-in. choke, according to IHS Energy Group. Shields perforated at 4,305-19 ft. 2 The first oil producer completed in a new Pennsylvanian Springer gas producing area in Washita County, Okla., yielded 243 bbl. per day on pump, with 151,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. KCS Medallion Resources Inc., Tulsa, perforated at 4,405-20 ft., 4,510-4,600 and 4,714-4,922 ft. in a faulted Springer section at the #2 Gas in Section 30-8n-17w. The producing area recently was incorporated into Rocky and Rocky West fields. 3 Also in Washita County, EOG Resources Inc., Houston, recently opened a new pool in a southern Anadarko Basin play in Oklahoma by completing a Pennsylvanian Morrow producer flowing 2.25 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The shallower-pool discovery-the 31#2 Ross Haxton in Section 31-8n-15w-extends Gotebo North Field a half-mile eastward. EOG tested on a 14/64-in. choke and is producing the well from 5,034-52 ft. Gotebo North Field primarily has produced from various overturned and thrusted Springer sections from about 9,700- 10,500 ft. 4 EOG Resources Inc. has opened another new pool, this one producing from Pennsylvanian Kansas City in an unnamed field in the Oklahoma Panhandle's Texas County. The company's 6#3 Meyer "K," also a shallower-pool discovery, yielded a flow of gas at a rate of 2 million cu. ft. per day on a 32/64-in. choke. Perforations are at 4,741-49 ft. in Kansas City. The well, in Section 6-1n-13ecm, offsets to the southeast an oil and gas producer that EOG completed last year from Morrow at 6,718-68 ft. 5 Another Washita County well, the Marathon Oil Co. #3-30 Patricia, extended an unnamed field and yielded 9.162 million cu. ft. of gas and 46 bbl. of condensate per day at completion. IHS Energy Group reports Houston-based Marathon used a 35/64-in. choke to test Pennsylvanian Granite Wash through two intervals, at 12,270-90 ft. and 12,316-36 ft., at the stepout in Section 30-9n-19w. The extension is about a quarter-mile southwest of the bottomhole location of the discovery for the field. 6 An exploratory venture-the #1 Calvin Terry completed by Oxley Petroleum Co., Tulsa, in LeFlore County, Okla.-gave up a flow of 2.05 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The well in Section 17-8n-26e yielded the gas flow on a 16/64-in. choke from Pennsylvanian Morris (Atoka), perforated at 4,870-79 ft. and 4,924-46 ft. It's about 0.75-mile west of a discovery completed by Oxley that apparently has been incorporated into Cameron Field. 7 In north Texas, Wichita Falls independent Hoco Inc. made a Gunsight Sand discovery in Wichita County's Regular Field area that made 75 bbl. of oil per day on pump. Hoco perforated at 1,920-24 ft. at the #1 Brockreid, in James Cole Survey, A-37, says IHS Energy Group. The well lies a quarter-mile southwest of the nearest previous producer, a Regular Field well completed in 1956 pumping 16 bbl. of oil per day from an openhole interval in Pennsylvanian at 1,926-30 ft. 8 Glasscock County, Texas, is the site of a Devonian discovery that was completed flowing 534 bbl. of oil and 353,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. Dallas independent Ventex Operating Corp.'s #1 Copeland, Section 27, Block 34, T3S, T&P Survey, A-230, was tested on a 20/64-in. choke from an openhole interval at 10,550-75 ft. The closest production is about three miles to the southwest in Garden City West Field. Elsewhere in Glasscock County, Coastal Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, completed a development well in Blalock Lake East Field flowing 643 bbl. of oil and 448,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Permian Wolfcamp. Testing was carried out on a 27/64-in. choke through several perforated intervals between 7,629-7,796 ft. at the #2 Glenn W. Hillger "A" in Section 13, Block 35, T3S, T&P Survey, A-318. 9 A flow gauge of 8 million cu. ft. of gas per day was recorded by Helmerich & Payne Inc., Tulsa, at the discovery #9-1 Appleton, on its Dixieland Prospect in Section 9, Block C20, PSL (J.E. Dobbs) Survey, A-4162, Reeves County, Texas. The well, which bottomed at 16,620 ft., is producing from an unreported formation (however, there is production from Pennsylvanian Sand at about 16,500 ft. about a mile to the south in Dixieland Field). About four miles southeast of the discovery, Helmerich & Payne is rigging up rotary tools to drill the #35-1 Sievers to a depth of 18,500 ft. The wildcat is in Section 35, Block 2, H&GN Survey. 10 Fort Worth independent Texland-Rector & Schumacher pumped 77 bbl. of oil and seven bbl. of water, with 24,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day at the #1 Allen "17," a discovery in Ward County, Texas. Located in Section 17, Block B13, PSL Survey, A-1302, the wildcat is producing through perforations between 10,455-10,517 ft. in Middle Ordovician Waddell. 11 Projected depth is 20,000 ft. at the #1 Dooley, an exploratory venture staked by Titan Resources I Inc. in Loving County, Texas. The Midland company staked the location in Section 3, Block 75, PSL Survey, A-1241. IHS Energy Group says the project lies a quarter-mile northwest of a test that was drilled to 22,458 ft. in Ordovician and abandoned in the early 1960s in the same section. Also in Section 3 is the one-well Junior Field where the 20,287-ft. well produced gas and water from Atoka at 15,680-15,717 ft. for a year and a half in the early 1980s. 12 Magnum Hunter Resources Inc., Irving, Texas, says it has participated in a discovery in Hockley County, Texas. The company reports Seneca Resources Corp., the Houston-based operator, recorded a flow of 215 bbl. of oil and 43,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Permian Abo at the #1 Howard Trust. The well, in Labor 11, League 714, State Capitol Lands (A. Taylor) Survey, A-216, is producing through perforations at 7,756-90 ft. The discovery is the second of 15 potential exploration prospects identified from a 45-square-mile 3-D seismic project completed by Magnum Hunter and its partners in 1999. Magnum Hunter has a 25% ownership interest in the well and approximately 15,000 acres covering the 15 prospects. 13 King County, Texas, gained a discovery when Wichita Falls independent Medders Oil Co. Inc. finaled the #1 Forks "CCC" pumping 175 bbl. of oil per day from Permian Tannehill. Perforations are at 3,762-76 ft. at the well, in Section 2, R.C. Hannas Survey, A-1024. 14 Barrett Brothers Oil & Gas Inc., San Antonio, completed the #1 Pitts flowing 311 bbl. of oil and 68,000 cu. ft. of gas per day to confirm the discovery of Tucker-West Point Field in Lynn County, Texas. The #1 Pitts, which has perforations at 10,902-16 ft. in Devonian Fusselman, was tested on a 6/64-in. choke. It's in Section 7, Block C40, PSL (F.C. Mellard) Survey, A-998, about a quarter-mile south of the field opener that came in flowing 170 bbl. of oil and 45,000 cu. ft. of gas per day when completed in late 1997. 15 Texaco Exploration & Production Inc. is drilling below 4,500 ft. at the #1 Texmack "5" State Com, a Lea County, N.M., wildcat scheduled to go to 12,950 ft. IHS Energy Group reports the venture, in irregular Section 5-16s-32e, has Morrow as its primary objective. 16 Roosevelt County, N.M., is to get an 8,000-ft. wildcat, scheduled to be drilled by Concho Resources Inc. at the #1 State in Section 31-6s-37e. Midland-based Concho plans to test Pennsylvanian.
