1 A wildcat staked by Murfin Drilling Co. Inc., Wichita, in northern Kansas is scheduled to be drilled to about 3,775 ft. in Cambrian Reagan Sand. According to IHS Energy Group, Murfin's venture is the #1-20 Ninemire in Section 20-3s-24w, Norton County. It's about four miles from two fields-Norton to the southeast and Norton North to the east. Almost due south, at the other end of the state, Westmont, Ill.-based Midco Exploration Inc. has obtained a permit to drill the 6,100-ft. #1-20 Thies in Section 20-33s-25w, Clark County. The wildcat is targeting Mississippian. 2 A one-mile south extension of Arkansas' Ewing Field flowed a combined 6.8 million cu. ft. of gas per day from two zones-Pennsylvanian Spiro at 6,730-6,804 ft. and Devonian Penters at 8,175-8,235 ft. Seeco Inc., Fayetteville, tested gas at the rate of 2.8 million cu. ft. per day from Spiro and 4 million cu. ft. per day from Penters at the #30-1 Fort Chaffee 14, Section 14-7n-30w, Sebastian County. 3 Logan County, Ark., is the site of a dual-zone producer completed by Hanna Oil & Gas Co., Fort Smith, flowing at a combined rate of 18.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The new Booneville Field producer is the #2 Marshall in Section 9-6n-28w. Pennsylvanian Turner at 5,265-5,306 ft. yielded 9 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 40/64-in. choke, while Borum between 6,217-6,317 ft. gave up 9.4 million cu. ft. per day on a 48/64-in. choke. 4 The #1-8 Tyler is a remote wildcat staked by Arkana Operating Co. Inc., Tulsa, in Section 8-9n-16w, Conway County, Ark. IHS Energy Group reports Arkana plans to test formations through Siluro-Devonian Hunton to a depth of 4,200 ft. 5 A flow gauge of 237 bbl. of oil and 105,000 cu. ft. of gas per day has been credited to a Pennsylvanian Cherokee shallower-pool opener completed by Union Valley Petroleum Corp. in Dewey County, Okla. The Enid, Okla., independent tested the #26-1 Oakes, Section 26-17n-16w, on a 10/64-in. choke after perforating three intervals between 9,358-80 ft. The well is a workover of a Hunton gas/condensate producer that was a deeper-pool discovery in Nobscott Northwest Field when originally completed by the company a little more than a year ago. Hunton was perforated in six intervals between 13,002-13,240 ft. 6 EOG Resources Inc., Houston, has completed a Texas County Pennsylvanian Morrow discovery as part of its drilling program being carried out in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The 1#1A Vall "K" in Section 1-1n-12ecm, which had an initial flow gauge of 2.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 18 bbl. of oil per day, is producing from 6,718-68 ft. There is no other Morrow producer within 3.5 miles of the new well. 7 Oklahoma's Red Oak-Norris Field has a new Pennsylvanian Red Oak gas producer, the result of an ongoing development program by BP Amoco. The #7 Dye Unit, Section 1-6n-22e, Latimer County, initially flowed 5.2 million cu. ft. of gas per day through perforations at 7,028-38 ft. About 0.25 mile to the north, still in Section 1, the company is drilling toward a projected depth of 7,100 ft. in Red Oak at the #8 Dye Unit. IHS Energy Group says that since 1987, BP Amoco has completed five other Red Oak wells in Section 1 with initial gauges ranging from 2.8 million to 6.9 million cu. ft. of gas per day. 8 Another drilling program that's under way, this one by Amarillo independent Crescendo Resources LP in the Texas Panhandle, has yielded two new Pennsylvanian Douglas development producers near Canadian in Hemphill County. Crescendo's #3056 Buckthal in Section 56, Block A-1, H&GN Survey, A-963, Ramp Field region, flowed 3.78 million cu. ft. of gas, 92 bbl. of condensate and six bbl. of water per day on a 28/64-in. choke through perforations at 7,820-76 ft. In the Gem-Dandy/Hemphill Douglas Pool area, the company tested 2.62 million cu. ft. of gas and 17 bbl. of condensate per day through perforations at 7,966-82 ft at #1048 Read. A 23/64-in. choke was used on the test at the well in Section 48, Block 41, H&TC Survey, A-858. Elsewhere in Hemphill County, EOG Resources is set to drill a deeper-pool wildcat at the #3 Humphreys 46 in Section 46, Block 1, G&M Survey, A-476. The project, scheduled to be drilled to 11,800 ft. to evaluate zones through Upper Morrow, is near Twister Field. 9 Two Texas Panhandle counties are each scheduled to get a deeper pool test, reports IHS Energy Group. At a site a half-mile off the northern flank of Panhandle Gray County Field in Gray County, Oklahoma City independent Ricks Exploration Inc. intends to drill to 12,500 ft. to Ordovician Ellenburger at the #13A Abraham Ranches in Section 13, Block A-6, H&GN Survey, A-117. Meanwhile, horizons through Mississippian are to be tested at the 7,200-ft. #7 Witter "B," staked by Phillips Petroleum Co. in Sherman County. The new location is in Section 41, Block 1-C, GH&H Survey, A-58, Texas Hugoton Field. 10 A Lower Mississippian Chappel discovery made by Key Energy of Colorado Inc. to establish First Field in Hardeman County, Texas, has been confirmed by the company at the #2 West Estate Unit. The confirmation, in Section 67, Block 16, H&TC Survey, A-259, was completed flowing 148 bbl. of oil, 15,000 cu. ft. of gas and 67 bbl. of water per day. The well was tested on an 8/64-in. choke from an openhole interval at 8,130-55 ft. In January 1998, Denver-based Key completed the discovery #1 West Estate Unit, also Section 67, flowing 357 bbl. of oil per day. 11 Bass Enterprises Production Co., Fort Worth, has started drilling the #1 Mitchell "533" in Section 533, Mud Creek IA&M Survey, A-691, Terrell County, Texas. Bass' exploratory venture is scheduled to be drilled to 15,000 ft. 12 A pump gauge of 116 bbl. of oil, with 84,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day was recorded by Ammonite Energy Texas Inc., Midland, at completion of its discovery the #1A Amanda Foster in Glasscock County, Texas. According to IHS Energy Group, the well is producing from two perforated intervals in Permian Wolfcamp, at 8,516-32 ft. and 8,800-20 ft. It's in Section 47, Block 34, T4S, T&P Survey, A-264. 13 St. Clair Energy Corp., Midland, set production pipe on bottom and is waiting on completion tools at its remote wildcat the #1-33 Kunitz "5" in Culbertson County, Texas. The prospect, which reached a total depth of 7,556 ft. in a sidetracked hole, is in Section 33, Block 69, Public School Land Survey, A-4044. It's nearly 15 miles west of the closest previous production in Signal Peak Field. 14 In Eddy County, N.M., the opener of Washington Ranch South Field-the #1 Primero-Federal in irregular Section 23-26s-24e-was completed by Marbob Energy Corp., Artesia, flowing nearly 2.8 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Details have just been released on the discovery, completed a year ago in Morrow from perforations at 7,769-79 ft. Marbob used an 18/64-in. choke to test the well. The company apparently has confirmed the discovery at the #1 Mayes Com, about 1.33 miles to the northwest. Very few details about the #1 Mayes Com are available. However, it is known the well produced 173 bbl. of condensate from Morrow last March. 15 Mack Energy Corp., Artesia, tapped Ordovician McKee for a flow of 1.7 million cu. ft. of gas, 33 bbl. of condensate and three bbl. of water per day at the #1 MC Federal, a discovery in Section 22-17s-32e, Lea County, N.M. IHS Energy Group says the company perforated at 14,805-21 ft. and tested on a 12/64-in. choke at the well, which offsets to the east a well that produced from formations shallower than McKee.
