1 Newton, Kan.-based Palomino Petroleum Inc. completed a wildcat in western Kansas' Ness County, about four miles northeast of Ness City. The #1 Lawrence Schuler, in Section 10-18s-24w, was completed as a discovery in the Pennsylvanian Cherokee sand, producing commercial amounts of oil from an undisclosed interval above the 4,398-ft. total depth. Palomino has not released any completion details. About a mile west-southwest is the closest production, the #1-9 Wells, in Section 9-18s-24w in Swell Field. That 4,430-ft. discovery pumped 93 bbl. of oil and one bbl. of water per day through perforations in Cherokee between 4,288-89 ft., according to IHS Energy. 2 Trees Oil Co., Wichita, completed a southeastern Kansas wildcat three miles east of the town of Oxford. The #1-21 Bursack, in Section 21-32s-3e, Crowley County, is producing oil from an undisclosed Arbuckle interval. Drilled to a total depth of 3,437 ft., Trees has released no completion details. The well is nearly 1.5 miles east of the nearest producer in Slick-Carson Field. That 2,260-ft. well was completed in 1964 pumping 80 bbl. of oil and 80 bbl. of water daily from two fractured Pennsylvanian Layton intervals between 2,587 and 2,616 ft. 3 Seeco Inc., Fayetteville, Ark., plans to drill an eastern Arkoma Basin wildcat in a nonproducing township in southern Logan County, Ark. The #1-10 Smith, in Section 10-5n-26w, is proposed to target the Borum at 6,500 ft. Only six tests have been drilled in the township. The only test to recover hydrocarbons is almost three miles west-southwest. The #1 USA was tested in the Atoka between 5,109-22 ft. in 1966 flowing between 250,000 and 850,000 cu. ft. of gas daily. 4 Shreveport, La.-based Sklar Exploration Co. LLC has completed a high-volume Cotton Valley wildcat in the southern portion of Union County, Ark., about 2.66 miles north of the Louisiana state line and nearly seven miles southeast of the town of Three Creeks. The #1 Cameron, in Section 19-19s-16w, flowed 690 bbl. of oil and 250,000 cu. ft. of casinghead gas per day through perforations between 7,551-58 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 970 psi on a 12/64-in. choke, according to IHS Energy. About 1.25 miles south-southwest is Stateline Field, where the #1 Slaughter recovered 121,583 bbl. of oil and 93.25 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas from the Smackover between 8,981-92 ft. 5 Marathon Oil Co., Houston, completed a deep exploratory test about a mile northeast of Cyril in southeastern Caddo County, Okla. Gas flowed at an initial rate of 8.2 million cu. ft. per day, with one bbl. of condensate and six bbl. of water daily. The #1-18 Albert-BIA, in Section 18-5n-9w, is producing from several fracture-simulated intervals in the Boatwright member of Springer through perforations between 17,698 and 17,776 ft. Flow was measured through a 24/64-in. choke with a tubing pressure 4,550 psi. The closest deep Springer and Goddard production is on the northern flank of Fletcher Northeast Field, about 1.5 miles south. 6 Landers & Waldman Inc., Davenport, Okla., completed a discovery 3.5 miles southeast of Agra in northern Lincoln County, Okla. The #1 Cline, in Section 24-16n-4e, is producing through perforations in Prue between 3,537-47 ft. Gas flowed at an initial rate of 1 million cu. ft. per day, with traces of oil and water. The discovery was drilled to a total depth of 4,571 ft. The nearest production is 0.75-mile south in Parkland North Field. The field opened with the completion of two low-volume Mississippian oil producers at about 4,200 ft. The field, comprised of seven wells, has produced approximately 147,000 bbl. of oil and 78.5 million cu. ft. of gas. 7 Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, tested a wildcat in Lea County, N.M., about six miles northwest of the town of Tatum. The #1 Dempster State Unit, in Section 30-11s-36e, was tested through commingled, acidized perforations between 12,675 and 12,878 ft. Gas flowed at the daily rate of 5.3 million cu. ft., with 16 bbl. of water. A half-mile west is the #1 Ray "BBR" State, which was tested in March 2003 flowing 3.8 million cu. ft. of gas daily from the Atoka between 12,361-78 ft. No production has been reported to date, according to IHS Energy. 8 In central Eddy County, N.M, Tom Brown Inc. completed an apparent Barnett Shale discovery flowing 1.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The Denver-based operator tested the #2 Federal "12" Com through acid- and fracture-treated perforations between 11,896 and 11,906 ft. on a 48/64-in. choke. Flowing tubing pressure was 100 psi. It is in Section 2-21s-26e, more than 100 ft. northwest of a Morrow well in Avalon Field. The #9 El Paso Federal was flowing gas from an openhole interval between 10,957-97 ft., total depth, in 1998. It has yielded a cumulative 3.2 billion cu. ft. of gas, 3,540 bbl. of condensate and 2,952 bbl. of water. 9 Key Energy of Colorado Inc., a unit of Denver-based Cimarex Energy, completed a horizontal wildcat about 10 miles south-southwest of the town of Quanah in southern Hardeman County, Texas. The #1H Summerlee Unit, in Section 6, EL&RR Survey, A-1718, was tested flowing 139 bbl. of oil per day through an openhole interval in the Chappel between 8,100 and 9,700 ft., total depth. Flowing tubing pressure was 920 psi. More than two miles west, Key recently permitted another horizontal test. The #1H J&J Ranch Unit is projected to a true vertical depth of 8,200 ft. in the Chappel Lime. 10 Midland, Texas-based Reflection Energy Search Inc. is waiting on completion tools at a wildcat about 15 miles west-southwest of the town of Spur in southeast Crosby County, Texas. The #1 Marsha, in Section 84, Block 2, H&GN Survey, A-568, reached a total depth of 8,214 ft. After no shows were encountered in the Ellenburger and Cambrian, it was plugged back and cased to 7,410 ft. with 51/2-in. pipe. The nearest test was drilled 0.66-mile northeast. The #2 L.B. Jones was abandoned at 2,455 ft. in 1972, IHS Energy reported. 11 In southwestern King County, Abilene-based LeClair Operating Co. Inc. has completed a West Texas discovery about 12 miles southwest of the town of Guthrie. The #1 G. Springer, in Section 168, Block F, H&TC Survey, A-1091, was tested pumping 41 bbl. of oil per day, with 5,000 cu. ft. of gas and two bbl. of water, through an openhole interval in the Tannehill between 3,683-90 ft., total depth. The nearest production is 1.66 miles southeast in GK Field. The #1 Springer was completed in 1983 pumping crude from Tannehill perforations between 3,608-12 ft. The 3,657-ft. well recovered a cumulative 45,333 bbl. of oil, 2.8 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 12,526 bbl. of water. 12 Abilene-based independent Patton Exploration Inc. has begun operations at a northwestern Stonewall County, Texas, wildcat staked about six miles north of the town of Swenson. At last report, the company was rigging up to drill the #2 Ward Unit, in Section 250, Block D, H&TC Survey, A-1350. The exploratory test is permitted to 6,600 ft. The nearest successful producer is in Mullen Ranch Field, almost a mile southeast of Patton's venture. The #1 T.H. Ward was tested in 1956 flowing 47 bbl. of oil daily through an openhole interval between 6,425-40 ft. in the Ellenburger. It produced 5,707 bbl. of crude. 13 CrownQuest Operating LLC, Midland, has set 7-in. casing to a total depth of 9,870 ft. at a wildcat in the Jasper Field area of central Winkler County, about six miles east-southeast of the town of Kermit, Texas. The #1 Jade, in Section 14, Block B6, PSL Survey, A-1216, was reported to be waiting on completion tools. The nearest previous well is in Jasper Field more than a half-mile west-northwest, according to IHS Energy. The #1 W.S. Jasper was originally completed in 1961 as a dual producer flowing crude from the Devonian between 9,612-52 ft. and the Ellenburger between 11,820-50 ft. Online until 2000, it recovered a total of 184,930 bbl. of crude, 470.8 million cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 151,489 bbl. of water. 14 Edmond, Okla.-based Steve Knox Oil Co. has scheduled a West Texas wildcat in northeastern Presidio County, 12 miles southeast of the town of Marfa. The #1-437 Reynolds, in Section 437, Block 8, GH&SA Survey, A-7239, will be drilled to a total depth of 5,500 ft. in the Fusselman. The venture is within five miles west of the Brewster County line. The sole producer in Riata Field is 2.66 miles south-southeast. The #1480 Barrett, the only well to ever produce in Presidio County, was completed in April 1997 pumping crude from the Canyon perforated between 3,810-26 ft. Online until 2001, the 5,122-ft. well recovered a cumulative 2,507 bbl. of oil and 29,858 bbl. of water. 15 Bluegrass Energy Inc., Tulsa, Okla., permitted a West Texas wildcat almost two miles northeast of the town of Iraan in northwestern Crockett County. Located in Section 76, Block 1, I&GN Survey, A-557, less than a mile northeast of the Pecos County line, the #1-76 Simpson is slated to reach 3,200 ft. The operator recently abandoned its #1-32 Simpson, 0.75-mile east-southeast of the permitted wildcat. It was drilled to 7,800 ft. in the Ellenburger. The nearest producer is the two-well Parker Ranch Field. The #1 Parker Ranch was tested pumping 136 bbl. of oil per day from perforations between 6,452 and 6,540 ft.
