1 Swift Energy Co., Houston, gauged a flow of 12.816 million cu. ft. of gas, 163 bbl. of condensate and seven bbl. of water per day on a 17/64-in. choke at the #1 Vaughan, a discovery in Willacy County, Texas. IHS Energy Group reports the well, in Jose Narciso Cabazos Survey, A-8, is producing through perforations between 13,266-13,330 ft. The #1 Vaughan is on the Rome Prospect, a little more than a half-mile east of the nearest Tordilla Field producer that in 1990 was brought onstream flowing 20.2 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Oligocene Frio, perforated at 13,280-13,367 ft. 2 A wildcat drilled by Osprey Petroleum Co. Inc., Houston, in Texas state waters offshore Nueces County has been completed for an initial flow rate of 12.161 million cu. ft. of gas and 282 bbl. of condensate per day. Located on Mustang Island Block 748L, the #1 State Tract 748L was tested on a 17/64-in. choke through perforations between 12,320-12,466 ft. 3 Texas' Lavaca County is the site of the El Paso Production Oil & Gas Co. #1 Robertson, a discovery where Eocene Wilcox was tapped for a flow of 6.184 million cu. ft. of gas and 216 bbl. of water per day. El Paso perforated between 14,361-14,456 ft. and tested on a 12/64-in. choke at the well, in Sarah Wilmans Survey, A-493. The company has requested the #1 Robertson be designated the opener of Speaks Northeast Field. Elsewhere in Lavaca County, Oklahoma City independent Louis Dreyfus Natural Gas Corp. has successfully tested a deep Wilcox venture in the Provident City Field area. The #1 Eva Ruth Hancock, T&NO RR Co. #4 Survey, A-608, gave up a flow of 14.781 million cu. ft. of gas and 97 bbl. of water per day on a 20/64-in. choke through perforations between 14,855-14,916 ft. 4 Gas flowed at the rate of 6.877 million cu ft. per day, with 66 bbl. of condensate and 72 bbl. of water daily, at the #1 Robinson, completed by Union Gas Operating Co. in Soloman Griffin Survey, A-126, Goliad County, Texas. Wilcox, perforated at 10,974-94 ft., was tested on an 18/64-in. choke at the discovery. IHS Energy Group says that, about a half-mile south-southeast in the same survey, Union Gas is drilling toward a projected depth of 14,000 ft. at its #1 Danforth. The company has also received a permit to drill a 14,000-ft. exploratory test 2.5 miles southwest of the #1 Robinson. The newly staked venture is the #1 Hoffman Ranch in Jacob Fifer Survey, A-120. 5 Arcturus Corp., Dallas, says three consecutive horizontal wells it completed producing from the "A" and "B" zones of Cretaceous Austin Chalk in Giddings Field, Washington County, Texas, have triggered new drilling in the area. The most recent completion, the #3-H Means, William Newman Survey, A-166, initially flowed 3.256 million cu. ft. of gas and 148 bbl. of oil per day on a 12/64-in. choke. Drilled to a total measured depth of 13,686 ft., it follows the successful completion of two previously drilled horizontal wells approximately 1.5 miles northwest. Those two wells are the #1-HRE Means (formerly known as the #1 Annie), Enos Cooper Survey, A-118, and the #2-H Means, David Ayers League, A-10, which were completed for 2.8 million cu. ft. of gas and 350 bbl. of oil per day on a 10/64-in. choke and 3.886 million cu. ft. of gas and 325 bbl. of oil per day on a 16/64-in. choke, respectively. Arcturus says testing has indicated most of the production at the wells is coming from the "A" zone, a new producing formation about 50 ft. below the "B" zone, which has yielded most of the production in the area in the past. Arcturus manages a 100% working interest in the #1-HRE Means and 95% in the #2-H and #3-H Means. The wells are operated by College Station, Texas-based 7711 Corp., which holds the 5% balance of working interest. Arcturus reports two additional locations have been staked two miles south in Sam Hinch Survey, A-66. The #4-H Means C and #5-H Means D will be joint ventures with RME Petroleum Co., a subsidiary of Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Houston. 6 In southern Louisiana, Neumin Production Co., Point Comfort, Texas, has completed a discovery about a mile north-northeast of Pine Ridge Field in Calcasieu Parish. IHS Energy Group says Neumin's well is the #1 Jack E. Lawton, Section 12-10s-10w, that flowed 2.359 million cu. ft. of gas and 67 bbl. of condensate per day on a 12/64-in. choke through perforations at 9,122-28 ft. in Oligocene Hackberry. 7 Bois d'Arc Offshore Ltd. has run production liner to 17,488 ft. at the #1 State Lease 16944, an indicated discovery on South Timbalier Block 9 in state waters offshore Terrebonne Parish, La. The wildcat, which bottomed at 17,546 ft., is about 1.5 miles southeast of a test recently drilled by Stone Energy Corp. on the same block. At last report, Stone Energy was preparing to run liner at the 15,170-ft. #1 State Lease 15307. 8 An initial flow gauge of 23.1 million cu. ft. of gas, 167 bbl. of condensate and 93 bbl. of water per day has been reported for the Amoco Production Co. #1 R.O. Martin Labor Co., in Section 8-5s-9e, in Judge Digby Field, Point Coupee Parish, La. The well was tested in Upper Cretaceous Tuscaloosa, perforated at 20,334-20,400 ft. 9 High bids amounted to $165.6 million for 320 blocks at the recent Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 180, according to IHS Energy Group. Fifty companies submitted 386 bids totaling $190 million. Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp., Oklahoma City, led a partnership that included Amerada Hess Corp., New York City, and Petrobras America Inc., Houston, that made the sale's top bid of $8,323,200 for Garden Banks Block 245. The per-acre bid of $1,445 for Block 245 was also the sale's highest. There were no bids on the 53 tracts offered at the Central Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 178, Part 2. 10 Apache Corp., Houston, has made a new fault block discovery on Eugene Island Block 187 that gave up a flow of 9.6 million cu. ft. of gas and 184 bbl. of oil per day on a 20/64-in. choke.
