1 Stone Energy Corp. , Lafayette, La., logged 74 ft. of net pay in two sands at its Rigolets #B-1 well in Lafitte Field in Jefferson Parish, says Houston independent Goodrich Petroleum Corp. Goodrich owns a 49% working interest in the discovery, which is testing a previously undrilled fault block. The well continues to drill toward a projected measured depth of 12,904 ft.; the partners plan to take sidewall cores. The nearest producer in the field is a half-mile east, in which gas, oil and water were produced from Middle Miocene between 11,200-11,312 ft. 2 A discovery in Orange County, Texas, has been tested by Lake Ronel Oil Co. , Tyler, at the rate of 5.79 million cu. ft. of gas per day. The #1 Stephenson, Richard Balliew Survey, A-2, was tested through perforations at 9,694-9,704 in Oligocene Frio, says IHS Energy Group. The 9,800-ft. well is 1.25 miles north of Lake Ronel's Little Cypress Field, which was discovered last June. 3 Two high-volume Oligocene Hackberry producers have been completed in Jefferson County, Texas. The #2 Brooks State Gas Unit, W.B. Burton Survey, A-8, was tested through perforations at 10,130-50 ft. Operator Rutherford Oil Co. , Houston, flowed 5.5 million cu. ft. of gas, 416 bbl. of condensate and 64 bbl. of water per day from the well. The 10,400-ft. test had a flowing tubing pressure of 4,513 psi on a 12/64-in. choke. In separate activity, Aspect Resources LLC , Denver, completed the #1 George W. Hurt in HT&B #23 Survey, A-144. That well tested 3.6 million cu. ft. of gas and 63 bbl. of condensate per day from perforations at 8,326-53 ft. The flowing casing pressure was 5,679 psi on the 8,780-ft. well, which was gauged on a 12/64-in. choke. 4 Also in Jefferson County, Venus Exploration Inc. , San Antonio, has drilled a fourth successful well in Constitution Field. The Kolander #1, drilled to a total depth of 14,060 ft., encountered 55 net ft. of pay in the Eocene Yegua formation between 13,843 and 13,943 ft. Upon perforating a 6-ft. zone in the lower part of the pay interval, the well flowed at an unstimulated rate of 1 million cu. ft. per day. It's been connected to pipeline, and at press time was flowing 2.9 million cu. ft. of gas, 535 bbl. of condensate and 64 bbl. of water per day. The Kolander is in Davis Choate Survey, A-11. Venus plans to drill two to three additional wells in Constitution Field this year. 5 GNK Inc. , Shreveport, completed its USA #1-H as a horizontal James Lime discovery in Shelby County, Texas, reports interest-owner Goodrich Petroleum Corp. The well, in John Hailey Survey, A-291, flowed 2.7 million cu. ft. of gas, eight bbl. of condensate and eight bbl. of water per day from a James Lime interval at 6,257-11,090 ft. Goodrich, owner of a 17% working interest in the discovery, says an additional four to six wells will be drilled in the prospect, with two to three slated for 2001. 6 Houston-based Esenjay Exploration has completed a new gas well in the deep geopressured Wilcox Trend in Live Oak County, Texas. The Corzine #1, Eduardo Ramirez #16 Survey, A-394, was drilled in the company's 32-square-mile Mikeska 3-D seismic project. The 3rd Tom Lyne Sand, a section within the Wilcox sand series, was production-tested without stimulation and is currently producing 10 million cu. ft. of gas and seven barrels of condensate per day with flowing tubing pressure of 7,125 psi. Esenjay operates the well and owns a 28.375% working interest; Ocean Energy , 55.187%; and Swift Energy Co. , 7.5%. Private companies own the rest. The Corzine #1 was drilled as an up-dip development well to Esenjay's Crocker-Perkins #1, a discovery well the company completed in the Upper 3rd Tom Lyne Sand last year. 7 Langtry Field has been the center of recent success in a Pennsylvanian Canyon sand play in Texas' Val Verde Basin. In Val Verde and Edwards counties, companies are pursuing the reservoir at depths below 11,000 ft., versus traditional Canyon depths of 5,000 to 8,000 ft. Since Langtry Field was discovered last fall, nine wells have been drilled and two are currently drilling. EEX Exploration & Production LP , Rio-Tex Operating , Bergstein Oil & Gas and Echo Minerals , partners in the Langtry project, have built a 23-mile, eight-in. pipeline and at press time were producing 40 million cu. ft of gas per day from seven wells, reports Rio-Tex. The latest completion, the EEX-operated #1 Whitehead "77", Section 77, Block D, GC&SF Survey, A-454, Val Verde County, flowed 5.5 million cu. ft. of gas and 180 bbl. of water per day from Canyon at 11,334-440 ft. In the same section, the #2 Whitehead "77" was gauged flowing 35 million cu. ft. of gas per day during air drilling operations, reports Rio-Tex. Evaluation is continuing. The wells are drilled with air and generally are fracture-stimulated. The field has room for up to 10 additional wells, and EEX currently has a six-well, two-rig program under way. EEX is based in Houston; Rio-Tex, Bergstein and Echo Minerals are from San Antonio. 8 Dallas-based Remington Oil & Gas has made a new-field discovery at Eugene Island Block 302 in the Gulf of Mexico. The Eugene Island Block 302 #1 OCS-G-21642 was drilled to a measured depth of 10,694 ft. and encountered 103 ft. of true vertical thickness pay. Once a production facility is constructed and installed, a second well will be drilled into an adjacent fault block, and if successful, both wells will be brought on production in the second quarter of 2002, it said. Remington operates the discovery and holds a 57.5% working interest; Magnum Hunter Resources , 30%; and Wiser Oil & Gas , 12.5%. 9 Spinnaker Exploration Co. , Houston, says that it has made three new-field discoveries and one deeper pool discovery. At South Timbalier Block 274, Spinnaker's #1 OCS-G-21680 was drilled in 265 ft. of water. The company found three separate Bul-1 reservoirs between 12,250-480 ft. First production is expected in early 2002. Spinnaker owns a 100% working interest in the block. At High Island Block 202, Spinnaker's #7 OCS-G-14870 found production field pays as well as productive Rob-M sands. Spinnaker operates the field and holds a 75% working interest. Two exploratory wells in West Cameron Block 459 were also successful. The #1 OCS-G-21056, drilled in 134 ft. of water, found 44 ft. of pay in the Pleistocene "I" sand target; the #2 was also successful. Spinnaker owns 50% working interest in the former, and 100% in the latter. First production is slated for 2002. 10 Pogo Producing Co. , Houston, says its Main Pass Block 61 #5 OCS-G-16493, drilled to a total vertical depth of 7,972 ft., encountered some 158 ft. of net oil pay. The reservoir was of unusually high porosity and permeability and covered a large feature, indicating excellent potential for this discovery. Pogo has a 100% working interest in Main Pass blocks 61/62 Field. The well was the second in fault block "B," located approximately 1.5 miles southeast of fault block "A," where three successful wells have already been drilled. Pogo plans two to five additional wells in the A block, and as many as four additional wells in the B block. 11 El Dorado, Ark.-based Murphy Oil Corp. announced two successful wells in the Gulf of Mexico, one at its Front Runner prospect in Green Canyon Block 338 and one at its Seventeen Hands prospect in Mississippi Canyon Block 299. A sidetrack to Murphy's #1 OCS-G-21790 successfully appraised its Front Runner discovery. The well was drilled in 3,500 ft. of water to a measured depth of 20,818 ft. and confirmed pay sands previously encountered in the discovery well. Murphy has drilled four sidetracks, and now estimates that Front Runner's reserves are in a range of 120- to 150 million bbl. of oil equivalent. At its Seventeen Hands prospect, the company drilled the #1 OCS-G-21752 to a total measured depth of 11,542 ft. in water 5,450 ft. deep. It is currently sidetracking that discovery to further delineate the find. Murphy owns a 37.5% interest in and operates each of these blocks; its partners are Dominion Resources , 37.5%, and Spinnaker Exploration Co. , 25%. 12 Unocal has spudded an ultradeepwater wildcat nearly 30 miles south of previous drilling, reports IHS Energy Group. The #1 OCS-G-20876 is in 9,743 ft. of water on Alaminos Canyon Block 903. Activity on the company's Trident prospect has set a new world record for deepwater drilling, besting the previous record of 9,157 ft. set offshore Gabon earlier this year. The nearest discovery is Shell's BAHA prospect in AC Block 557; Exxon Mobil's production at Hoover Field in AC Block 25 is 60 miles north.
