Amber Barlow Garcia, partner at Deutsch Kerrigan LLP, is today's featured Forty Under 40 honoree.
As a Louisiana native, where oil and gas is the "bread and butter" business, Garcia worked on an environmental lawsuit for a civil litigation defense law firm near the beginning of her career. This trial led her to pursue further environmental litigation cases for the oil and gas industry.
"In 2013, the firm was assigned representation of clients in what New York Times Magazine has dubbed ‘the most ambitious environmental lawsuit ever’ in American history," she said. "Being involved in the trial team to defend these lawsuits in the first year of practice was my introduction to the oil and gas industry as an environmental litigator."
Garcia is also actively involved in the Southeast Louisiana chapter of the Women's Energy Network (WEN). Her passion for allowing women in the energy industry to network, connect and explore career opportunities led her to be voted president-elect of her chapter.
"Being a female attorney focusing on environmental litigation, I often find myself the only female in the room," Garcia said. "Being heavily involved in WEN allows me to be in a room full of females in the energy industry to be able to brainstorm and discuss critical issues and problem solving."
