Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico (LTPR) and EDP Renewables North America Distributed Generation LLC (EDPR NA DG), a subsidiary of EDP Renewables North America, signed a power purchase agreement for EDPR NA DG to install a 2-megawatt (MW) rooftop solar system on LTPR’s Aguadilla facility in Puerto Rico.
The solar system will generate 95%-100% of the maintenance, operation and repair facility’s annual energy consumption, saving more than $10 million in operating costs. Annually, it will generate approximately 3 million kilowatt-hours (MMkWh) and reduce 2,126 mt of carbon emissions every year for the next two decades.
LTPR, a subsidiary of aviation company Lufthansa Technik, and EDPR NA DG’s collaboration will grow LTPR’s grid reliability in Puerto Rico as the company reduces its carbon footprint, improves resource efficiency by 25% and increases renewable energy usage by 50%.
“We are pleased to support Lufthansa Technik’s mission to decrease their carbon emissions by providing them with low-cost renewable energy solutions, whilst increasing resiliency in Puerto Rico’s energy grid,” said Gustavo Monteiro, EDPR NA Distributed Generation CEO.
As a renewable energy grid services provider, EDPR NA DG has constructed and operates 290 MW-peak of distributed generation and community solar projects across North America. For this collaboration with LTPR, EDPR NA DG will develop the rooftop solar system with local Puerto Rican developers Carpe Diem Developers.
