1 Roundtree & Associates Inc., Jackson, Miss., has scheduled a remote wildcat in southern DeSoto County, Miss. Only two wells have been drilled in the county to date. The company's #1 Cox-Milam, in Section 1-4s-8w, about 3.25 miles south of Hernando, will look for oil at 8,200 ft. The nearest well to that site is four miles north-northeast in Section 17-3s-7w, where the #1 Will Craigen Estate was abandoned at 3,724 ft. in 1978. The other test was drilled in 1945 some 15 miles northwest. The nearest production is about 70 miles southeast in Troy Field in Pontotoc County, according to IHS Energy. 2 A 10,000-ft. wildcat will test the Knox formation in southwestern Jefferson County, Ala. The well, operated by S. Lavon Evans Jr. Inc., Laurel, Miss., will test formations approximately 6,500 ft. deeper than any well produced to date in the county. All present production comes from the Pottsville formation above 3,000 ft. The company's #1 U.S. Steel Corp. "21-13" is in Section 21-19s-5w, about a mile west of Bessemer. The nearest drilling activity is an Oak Grove Coast Degasification Field well about 2.5 miles south-southeast. The deepest well drilled in the county is nearly 10 miles west-northwest where the #9138 W.W. 3-19-7-1-14 went to 3,475 ft. in Section 1-19s-7w. S. Lavon Evans has permitted six additional 10,000-ft. tests about 25 miles west-northwest of the #1 U.S. Steel Corp. Those Cambrian tests are in the Blue Creek Coal Degasification Field area in northern Tuscaloosa County, IHS Energy said. 3 Stephens Energy Co. LLC, Denver, has asked for a permit to drill the #13-17 State-Benona, the company's third wildcat in Oceana County, Mich. The well will test for gas in Brown Niagaran at about 4,000 ft. in Section 17-14n-18w in Benona Township, about six miles west of Shelby and two miles east of Lake Michigan. Stephens' site is 1.25 miles east of abandoned Shelby Field, which produced Devonian Traverse oil shallower than 2,000 ft. Brown Niagaran gas was discovered three miles east-northeast in the Benona 22-14n-18w Pool A Field, where the discovery well tested at 2.3 million cu. ft. of gas a day with 64 bbl. of condensate and four bbl. of water. The well produced 1 billion cu. ft. of gas and 38,215 bbl. of condensate in its first 19 months online. 4 Farmers Oil & Gas LLC, East Lansing, Mich., has applied for permits for three wildcat wells to look for Niagaran gas at 3,000 ft. about 3.5 miles north of Kalamazoo in Kalamazoo County, southwestern Michigan. All three wells are in Richland Township and all three are in township 1s-10w. The #1-16 Farmers is in Section 16, the #1-20 Farmers in Section 20 and the #1-21 Farmers in Section 21. Other wells drilled in the vicinity have not found pay in the Niagaran zones. Farmers also plans a 3,300-ft. Niagaran test at the #1-6 Farmers in Section 6-1s-6w in neighboring Calhoun County. That well is within a mile of two fields that have produced from Niagaran. 5 Silurian at 1,700 ft. is the target for a wildcat a mile north of Rochester, Ill., staked by Bi-Petro Inc., Springfield, Ill. The company's #2 Mohler-Western Comm is in Section 3-15n-4w in eastern Sangamon County. The company will use its own rig to drill the well a half-mile southeast of the abandoned Riverton South Field, which produced 95,000 bbl. of oil from two Silurian wells at approximately 1,575 ft. The wildcat also is a mile north-northwest of the northernmost well in Black Branch Field, which has produced 662,000 bbl. of oil from Silurian since 1968. According to IHS Energy, the field still has two working stripper wells. 6 Charles T. Evans Trust, Nashville, Ill., reported a marginal discovery at its #1 Frerking in Section 11-1s-6w in St. Clair County, Ill. The well, completed in 2002, tested at 1.4 bbl. of oil with 11.8 bbl. of water per day from Trenton perforations between 2,542-48 ft. The well is a little more than 3.5 miles north of Saint Libory Field, which produces from Aux Vases, and 5.5 miles south of the town of New Braden. 7 Michiwest Energy Inc., Mount Pleasant, Mich., has mounted a five-well wildcat campaign in Township 2n-17w, New London Township, Nova Quad, in Huron County, Ohio. Four wells target the Ohio shale at 999 ft. The #2-13 Barnes and the #3-13 Barnes are in Lot 13, Section 2, and the #1-18 Dalton and #2-18 Dalton are in Lot 18, Section 2. All four wells are roughly three miles east off Fitchville Field, which produces from the Vaina sand, and two miles north- northeast of New London, Ohio. The fifth well, in the same area of Lot 13 is the #1-13 Barnes, and it is designed to reach Big Lime at 1,000 ft. 8 Pennsylvania General Energy Corp., Warren, Pa., lodged a discovery flowing 9.7 million cu. ft. of gas a day from the Black River lime at its #1460 Pace in Steuben County, N.Y. The company tested the 10,140-ft. well through a 5/64-in. choke with 973 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The well is in Section H, Corning Quad, Corning Township, more than a mile north of Corning Field, which produces from Oriskany. The well is a half-mile south of Riverside. The companies plan two more wells and up to four development wells in the area at a typical cost of $2 million for a vertical well, according to IHS Energy. 9 East Resources Inc., Wexford, Pa. (operator), with partner Belden & Blake Corp., North Canton, Ohio, completed two Trenton-Black River wildcat discoveries, one each in Steuben and Chemung counties, N.Y. The #1 Curren, in southwestern Chemung County, Southport Township, Seeley Creek Quad, about four miles west-southwest of Southport, tested at a rate of 20.5 million cu. ft. of gas a day in a two-hour test from 11,500 ft. The companies expect the well to produce between 6- and 10 million cu. ft. of gas a day into the pipeline.
