1 Petrobras Inc., the Houston-based subsidiary of the Brazilian oil and gas company, filed an initial plan of exploration for Lloyd blocks 45 and 46 in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The plan contemplates up to three wells on the two blocks in water depths from 8,310 to 8,455 ft. 1Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Houston, filed an exploration plan for its Mondo prospect in Lloyd 47, 91 and 135, stacked north to south about four miles east. Some 10 miles east-northeast of the Petrobras prospect, Anadarko completed its Atlas discovery at 16,800 ft. Anadarko proposes up to 18 wells at the Atlas discovery. 2 Roundtree & Associates Inc. , Jackson, Miss., is drilling ahead at its #1 Cox-Milam "1-1" about 3.25 miles south of the town of Hernando in southern DeSoto County in northwestern Mississippi. Only two wells have been drilled in the entire county to date. The planned 8,200-ft. wildcat in Section 1-4s-8w is about four miles south-southwest of the nearest well drilled in the county. That well, the #1 Will Craigen Estate was abandoned at 3,724 ft. in 1978. The only other well is more than 15 miles northwest of the Roundtree well. There, the #1 F.T. Withers Estate was abandoned at 4,881 ft. in 1945. The nearest production is 70 miles southeast in Troy Field in Pontotoc County. That field produces at multiple reservoirs, most shallower than 3,000 ft., according to IHS Energy. 3 In sparsely drilled Covington County, Ala., Longleaf Energy Group Inc. , Brewton, Ala., has run casing at its SA "13-6," a wildcat directionally drilled to 12,648 ft. about 10 miles north of the Florida state line. The well, in Section 12-2n-14e, was planned to reach bottom a half-mile southeast in Section 13 of the same township. The target was Haynesville. The nearest drilling is an abandoned wildcat a half-mile southwest. The nearest production is nearly 2.75 miles northwest in Rome North Field where the #1 Paramount-Federal "4-8" in Section 4 of the township showed an initial potential of 361 bbl. of oil from Haynesville perforations between 11,908-71 ft. Drilled in 1993, the well produced 277,878 bbl. of oil and 54,429 bbl. of water through May 2002. The well was recompleted in March 2003, but produced only 870 bbl. of water during the month. 4 Traverse City, Mich.-based Jordan Development Co. LLC has asked for a drilling permit to test Niagaran in a 6,828-ft. horizontal wildcat more than three miles west of Compemish in northwestern Manistee County, Mich. The company's #5-15 HD State-Springdale will be drilled from a surface location in Section 15-24n-14w, Springdale Township, to bottomhole location to the east in the same section. The new well is slightly more than a half-mile northeast of the company's #16-16 State-Springdale & O'Driscoll discovery with a downhole location in Section 16, which was completed for 216 bbl. of oil and 325,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Niagaran. The company also has two offsets staked nearby, and it has a pair of wildcats staked in sections 20 and 26 in Township 25n-12w in Grand Traverse County. 5 1Stephens Energy Co. LLC, Denver, tested 120 bbl. of oil and 134,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from its #8-28 Andrews new-field discovery well in Brown Niagaran in Section 28-14n-18w, Benona Township, Oceana County, Mich. The well produced from acidized perforations between 3,662-80 ft. The discovery, seven miles southwest of Shelby, is 1.75 miles southwest of Benon 22a-14n-18 w Field, which produces from Brown Niagaran. 6 Maverick Oil Co. LLC éÿ , Metamora, Ill., staked the #1 Dueker wildcat about six miles northeast of Iola in Clay County, Ill. The Section 15-4n-6e well will test formations through McClosky nearly a mile southeast of the main section of Hord Field. That field, discovered in 1950, produced 638,000 bbl. of oil before it was abandoned two years ago. Production in the area comes from Aux Vases at 2,725 ft. and McClosky at about 2,800 ft. That field has produced more than 1.8 million bbl. of oil from Aux Vases and McClosky since it was discovered in 1942, according to IHS Energy. 7 Unconventional gas specialist 1Quicksilver Resources Inc. ? continued its aggressive wildcat campaign to New Albany Shale in Harrison County, Ind. In Township 4s-4e, the company plans the #D4-18 Davis to 1,050 ft. in Section 18, the #A4-26 Kaufer to 1,050 ft. in Section 26 and the #C4-28 Robbins to 999 ft. in Section 28. The company also plans the #A2-9 D1 Zipp horizontal wildcat to a vertical depth of 999 ft. in Section 9-5s-5e. The wells are in the vicinity of Quicksilver's Laconia Field. 8 Belden & Blake Corp., North Canton, Ohio, has permitted a 2,000-ft. deeper pool wildcat under its Dunkirk Field in Section 2, Forest Quad, about three miles west of the town of Forest in Hardin County, Ohio. The new well, the L & M Brown, will target Trempealeau. 9 Wexford, Pa.-based East Resources M has increased activity in its southern New York Trenton-Black River program in Chemung and Steuben counties. Some two miles east of Elmira, the company is drilling the #1 Bush in Elmira Quad, south-central Chemung County. The well is about four miles southeast of the #624537 Schmidt Trenton-Black River discovery. Details are confidential. Between 11 and 12 miles west-southwest, East Resources scheduled the #1 Gillis in Caton Township, Seeley Creek Quad in Steuben County and two miles south-southeast of that well, it plans the #1 Strouse in Southport Township, Seeley Creek Quad, Chemung County. Both wells are within three miles of previous Trenton-Black River discoveries made by East Resources earlier this year. 10 Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. òò , Houston, posted a discovery with its #1 Logs Unlimited new-field wildcat in Section D, Belden Quad, Colesville Township in Broome County, N.Y. The discovery, about eight miles northeast of Binghamton, tested at a rate of 173,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from commingled openhole Oriskany between 4,802-21 ft. and from openhole Helderberg Lime between 4,821 and 4,930 ft. The company abandoned a wildcat in Section G of the same quad. The discovery is some 13.5 miles southeast of an unnamed field, according to IHS Energy. 11 North Coast Energy Inc., Austintown, Ohio, has scheduled a cluster of wildcat wells to Medina, Clinton and Oriskany to 4,000 ft. in Mercer County, Pa. between 4.1 and five miles north of Orangeville. The #1, #2, #5, #7, #8 and #9 James and Janet Lawrence are in Section I, Kinsman Quad, West Salem Township. The #4 James and Janet Lawrence is in Section G, Greenville West Quad, West Salem Township. The #1, #2 and #3 John & Linda McElhinny also are in Section I, Kinsman Quad. 12 Interstate Gas Marketing Inc., å Indiana, Pa., plans a pair of Upper Devonian wildcats to 4,000 ft. in Section F, Freeport Quad, South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, Pa. The #1 Marshall is 2.6 miles northeast of Freeport and 1.2 miles northeast of Freeport Field, while the #3 Marshall is 0.2-mile closer to both locations. 13 Texas Keystone Inc., Pittsburgh, Pa., brought in a new-field wildcat that tested 152,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from commingled Speechley Stray, Sheffield, Bradford and Kane formations between 3,444 and 4,047 ft. at its #3 John Borchin, in Section E, Wilpen Quad, Fairfield Township in Westmoreland County, Pa. Nearest production is four miles northeast in an unnamed field. The company has an aggressive wildcat campaign under way with nine more wells in sections E and F of the quad. 14 DAC Corp., Alma, W.Va., tested 800,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from its #1 Haines new-field wildcat in Wetzel County, W.Va. The discovery produced from commingled Big Injun/Gordon perforations between 2,518 and 3,474 ft. after fracturing. The company drilled the well in Church District, Littleton Quad, some 4.75 miles southwest of the town of Hundred. 15 A new-field wildcat rewarded efforts by 1Waco Oil & Gas Co. 7G , Glenville, W.Va., at its #1545 Huber in Sardis District, Wallace Quad, Harrison County, W.Va. The well tested at 315,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from commingled Gantz, Thirty Foot, Gordon/Fifth and Speechley/Balltown between 1,954 and 3,357 ft. The well is 1.2 miles northwest of Brown-Lumberport Field and 8.4 miles west of Lumberport, W.Va. 16 1Kentucky Ausable Energy LLC 9 , Bowling Green, Ky., has scheduled the #1 Johnny Rose et ux to a depth of 250 ft. in Riverside Quad in Butler County in western Kentucky. The wildcat, targeting Upper Mississippian, is 3.7 miles northwest of an unnamed McClosky field and 4.2 miles northeast of the town of Woodbury. 17 Majestic Management LLC A , Glasgow, Ky., plans a four-wildcat campaign to 2,000 ft. in Amandaville Quad, Adair County, Ky. The #1, #2 and #3 Dannie R. Hoover are between two miles and 2.1 miles northwest of Harvey Ridge Consolidated Field and more than 8.1 miles south of Columbia, Ky., and the #4 Dannie Hoover is 1.7 miles east of Gradyville Consolidated Field, also 8.1 miles south of Columbia, Ky.
