1 Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Houston, set a record by completing the first gas producer in the Lloyd area of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico at its Atlas prospect. The company's #1 OCS-G-23458 well is only the second well drilled in the area. The company drilled the well to 19,800 ft. in 9,000 ft. of water and drilled through some 180 ft. of gross pay. The company was forced to suspend operations at the well in Lloyd Block 50 because of strong seasonal currents in the area, but it will come back this fall with a sidetrack. Anadarko could drill up to 18 wells in its four-block unit, which also includes blocks 5, 6 and 49. The first well in the block was the Marathon Oil Co. Barracuda South prospect in Block 927. 2 Centurion Resources LLC, Fulton, Miss., completed a discovery well 1.5 miles northeast of Fulton in northeastern Itawamba County, Miss. Only 23 wells have been brought into production in the county. The #1 Bright Future 22-5, in Section 22-9s-93, showed an initial potential of 100,000 cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water a day on an 8/64-in. choke from perforations between 582-92 ft. in the Carter/Sanders formation. The nearest producer is about 3.33 miles northwest in X-Files Field, according to IHS Energy, but that well has never been brought online. Centurion drilled that well to Evans between 960-61 ft. 3 Legacy Resources Co. LLC, Mandeville, La., claimed a discovery at its #1 State Lease 613 well in Alabama state waters in Baldwin Offshore Block 64 off the coast of Baldwin County, Ala. The well produced at a rate of 2 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Miocene perforations from 2,039-48 ft. through a 22/64-in. choke with 566 psi of flowing tubing pressure. Total depth on the well is 2,500 ft. The nearest production is in Legacy's Saxon Bay Field 1.75 miles south-southeast. The #1 State Lease 615 well in that field was completed in 1998 flowing 5.3 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Meyer between 1,440-58 ft. 4 Zinke & Trumbo Inc., Tulsa, has started drilling at its remote Smackover wildcat two miles west of Crestview in Okaloosa County, Fla. The company's #34-2 Enzor, in Section 34-3n-24w, is being drilled directionally toward a measured depth of 17,000 ft. with a bottomhole location about a mile north-northwest in the same section. The company originally permitted the well as the #34-2 Duggan et al. but later changed the name. The nearest previous drilling was 0.66-mile east where the #1 Duggan LBR was abandoned by A.R. Temple in 1955 at a depth of 6,250 ft. The nearest production is 22 miles north-northeast in McLellan Field where Exxon Corp. completed the #34-2 State of Florida in 1987 for 640 bbl. of oil a day from Smackover between 14,051-61 ft. 5 In northern Michigan, Federal Oil Co., Mount Pleasant, Mich., has staked the #1-27 Ferry & Foster State new-field wildcat projected to 4,700 ft. in a search for Niagaran gas. The company will drill its #1 Gordley through Cambro-Ordovician Knox to about 2,300 ft. in Section 30-14n-8w. Only two wells have been drilled in the township previously. Both were abandoned. The nearest production comes from an unnamed, two-well Devonian gas pool producing from about 1,000 ft. some five miles southeast. That field was discovered in 1946 by L.M. Ladet. Jacksonville Field is about 10 miles northwest. According to IHS Energy, that field produced small amounts of oil and gas from Pennsylvanian and Mississippian about 350 ft. after its discovery in 1910. 7 RK Petroleum Corp., Midland, and Gordon & Price Inc., Marion, Ill., both have staked remote wildcats in Illinois. The RK #1 Hunt Community, in Section 23-10n-11w in eastern Clark County, is seven miles southeast of Marshall on the west side of the Wabash River. It will test potential production through Silurian to 3,800 ft. The nearest production is 4.5 miles east-northeast in Prairie Creek Field in Vigo County, Ind. That field has produced 2.4 million bbl. of oil from Devonian, Salem and St. Genevieve at depths shallower than 2,100 ft. Gordon & Price will drill its #1 Kunz in Section 18-2n-5w to Ordovician at 2,700 ft. a half-mile north of Trenton in western Clinton County. The nearest production is five miles south-southeast at New Baden East Field, which was discovered in 1958 and produced 327,00 bbl. of oil from Silurian at about 1,900 ft. One stripper well in the field remains active, according to IHS Energy. 8 Continuing an aggressive shallow-gas campaign, Quicksilver Resources Inc., Fort Worth, Texas, permitted a series of new-field wildcats in Harrison County, Ind. The #A3-19 Collins and the #C4-19 Jenkins both are in Section 19-4s-4e, the first in the northeast quarter section and the second in the southeast quarter section.
