• Cequel Energy, Calgary, plans to acquire certain producing properties in the Gold Creek and Karr areas of northwest Alberta and certain other minor properties in Alberta for C$75.8 million. The properties contain estimated total proven reserves of 34.5 billion cu. ft. of gas and 1.3 million bbl. of liquids. Proven plus probable reserves are estimated at 67.6 billion cu. ft. of gas and 2 million bbl. of liquids. Current daily production is approximately 15.5 million cu. ft. of gas and 595 bbl. of liquids. The acquisition comes with approximately 149,000 net acres of undeveloped land. Cequel will have established reserves of 16.6 million BOE; production volumes of more than 5,800 BOE per day, 73% gas; and an undeveloped land base of approximately 230,000 net acres. • Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., Calgary, has acquired Rio Alto Exploration Ltd. for C$14.69 and 0.07 common share of Canadian Natural per Rio Alto share. Shareholders will also receive one share of Rio Alto Resources International Inc. Rio Alto produces more than 410 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Combined production is approximately 1.5 billion cu. ft. of gas and 202,000 bbl. of liquids per day, and a combined land base of 10.6 million undeveloped acres, net. • Duke Energy Corp., Charlotte, N.C., has sold its interest in Canadian 88 Energy Corp., Calgary. • Impact Energy Inc., Calgary, plans to acquire Encounter Energy Inc. for 0.78 of an Impact share per Encounter share, for a total-deal value of approximately C$23 million, including the assumption of positive working capital estimated at C$10 million. Encounter's current production is approximately 250 BOE per day, consisting of 1 million cu. ft. of gas and 80 bbl. of liquids. Encounter's principal properties and an undeveloped land base of approximately 39,000 net acres are primarily focused in Impact's West Peace River Arch/N.E. British Columbia core growth project area. • NCE Petrofund, Toronto, and NCE Energy Trust, Toronto, have merged. Each trust unit of Energy Trust was exchanged for 0.2325 trust unit of Petrofund. Total established reserves of the combined company will be approximately 104 million BOE. Total production is estimated at approximately 14,700 bbl. of liquids and 93 million cu. ft. of gas per day or approximately 30,000 BOE per day. • Bow Valley Energy Ltd., Toronto, plans to acquire Boundary Creek Resources Ltd. for C$22.5 million and the assumption of C$3 million of debt, net. Boundary's assets are in central Alberta and the Peace River Arch. • Progress Energy Ltd., Calgary, has acquired Campion Resources Ltd., Calgary, for 0.4 share of Progress per Campion share. Production is approximately 1,600 BOE per day, including 8.8 million cu. ft. of gas and 130 bbl. of liquids, 85% operated. Proven reserves are estimated at 4.2 million BOE.
