First unconventional tight gas has flowed from Aramco’s South Ghawar operational area two months ahead of schedule, Aramco announced Nov. 14.
Facilities at South Ghawar in Saudi Arabia can process 300 MMcf/d of raw gas and 38,000 bbl/d of condensate. Aramco is working to more than double the capacity to meet the goal of delivering 750 MMcf/d of gas from South Ghawar in the near future, the company said.
Successful production of tight sand gas at South Ghawar represents Aramco’s second unconventional gas stream, after production started at the North Arabia Field in 2018.
Aramco is also progressing the giant Jafurah unconventional gas field, which is the largest liquid-rich shale gas play in the Middle East.
