Houston-based Hart Energy Publishing LP, publisher of Oil and Gas Investor, Petroleum Finance Week and A&D Watch, has been formed as the result of a management buyout backed by a Denver-based energy-investment group led by Wiegers Capital Management. The partners purchased the Hart Publications assets from VS&A Communications Partners, New York, a private-equity fund specializing in the media and communications industries. Compass Advisers LLP advised on the transaction and is an equity investor. J.P. Morgan Chase provided debt financing. Riverstone Holdings and The Carlyle Group have raised a $1.1 billion buyout fund, Carlyle/Riverstone Global Energy & Power Fund II LP, for investment in the midstream, upstream, power and oilfield-service sectors. Already, nearly half the fund has been committed to seven investments. The portfolio includes Legend Natural Gas LP, a U.S. gas producer; CDM Resource Management Ltd., a U.S. gas-compression services company; Magellan Midstream Partners LP, a U.S. energy transportation, storage and distribution company, acquired with Madison Dearborn; Mariner Energy Inc., a U.S. producer; Glenmoor Acquisition Corp., pending closing of an acquisition of the Buckeye Pipeline Partners LP general partner; and Capital C, a U.S.-based producer, pending closing.
