Description
Shell Oil Co. has spud the first Lower Tertiary exploratory test on the company’s five-block Leopard prospect in the Gulf of Mexico. The #1 OCS G34771 is in Alaminos Canyon Block 691. Water depth in the area is 6,800 ft. According to the Leopard prospect exploration plan, as many as 18 tests are planned for various surface locations across five blocks. Tracts in the prospect include Alaminos Canyon Block 647 (OCS G36105), Block 690 (OCS G34770), Block 691, Block 734 (OCS G34776) and Block 735 (OCS G34777). According to IHS Markit, Shell was active in the area more than 20 years ago, just northwest of the Leopard prospect. Earlier exploratory tests were abandoned at 11,254 ft and 19,618 ft.
