Description

Oil Search filed plans to drill two wells and sidetrack combinations in the North Slope Pikka Unit to test the shallow, conventional Nanushuk formation. The company, which acquired a 25.5% interest in the Pikka Unit and it operation from Armstrong Energy and GMT Exploration, are to be the first drilled in the lower part of Pikka. Oil Search is the operator of the Pikka Unit and the upcoming Pikka B and C wells, as well as the Horseshoe leases to its south, with 25.5% interest in Pikka and 37.5% in Horseshoe, in partnership with Armstrong and GMT, holding the remaining interest. Plans are to drill the Pikka B and C wells to respective depths of 6,513 ft and 4,923 ft. Three previous wells have been drilled in Nanushuk, the first two by ConocoPhillips and the last by Armstrong. According to Armstrong, the Pikka Unit could produce more than 1 Bbbl of oil.
