Operator Carnarvon Petroleum Ltd. is gearing up to drill exploration well #1-Sea Lion in offshore Victoria's Gippsland Basin Block VIC/P57. The operator is waiting on a jackup rig, which is currently drilling in the Yolla Field in the Bass Strait. The Sea Lion Prospect was selected for drilling after evaluation studies indicated an estimated prospective resources of 11 MMbbl (P50) to 15.3 MMbbl bbl on an upside P10 case. A commercial discovery at Sea Lion would improve the economics of Carnarvon Hibiscus' West Seahorse development where a tie-in of the two fields would be possible. Carnarvon, based in Perth, is the operator of VIC/P57 and #1-Sea Lion with 55.1% interest in partnership with 3D Oil, holding 24.9%, and HiRex Australia holding 20%.
