Bay of Campeche Exploratory Test Planned By Talos
Drilling Activity Details
Drilling Activity Summary
Description
Talos Energy LLC began to drill an offshore exploration well in the Bay of Campeche’s shallow-water Sureste Basin in Mexico in May. The venture is in the Zama Prospect in Block 7 in the Salinas sub-basin, where light oil will be targeted in the Tertiary clastic reservoirs. A seismic survey of Block 7 in 2016 indicated a well-defined amplitude flat spot, a potential indicator of hydrocarbons. Houston-based Talos is the operator of Blocks 2 and 7 and the Zama exploration well with 45% interest, in partnership with Sierra Oil & Gas holding 45% and Premier Oil with the remaining 10%.
