The new unit is between the Colville River Unit to the west, the Oooguruk Unit to the east, and the Placer and Tofkat units to the south. The Pikka Unit covers approximately 63,304.47 in 31 State of Alaska and State of Alaska and Arctic Slope Regional Corp oil and gas leases including all or portions of the following Umiat Meridian lands: T10N-R5E, Section 2; T11N-R5E, Sections 25-36; T13N-R5E, Sections 1-3, 11-14 and 23-25; T14N-R5E, Sections 24-27 and 34-36; T11N-R6E, Section 5-8 and 17-20; T12N-R6E, Sections 1-36; T13N-R6E, Sections 1, 2 and 6-36; and T14N-R6E, Sections 19, 30 and 31. Madrid-based Repsol drilled its initial exploration well in the proposed unit area in 2012 at #2 Qugruk in Section 25-13n-5e. It was drilled to 2,525 ft and encountered a gas kick from Tuluvak and was abandoned. Between 2012 and 2014, the operator drilled and completed five wells that were considered discoveries but no details have been disclosed.
