Gimi, a floating LNG (FLNG) facility, has arrived at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) field offshore Mauritania and Senegal and BP has been notified, Golar LNG Ltd. announced on Jan. 10.
The FLNG facility will be moored offshore Tenerife while preparations are underway to connect it to the hub’s feed gas pipeline. Golar FLNG's West Africa facility will be moored at the GTA Field for the next 20 years.
“This is a major step forward for overall delivery of the GTA1 project in Mauritania and Senegal. Safely achieving this milestone is a result of great teamwork," Rahman Rahmanov, BP's vice president of projects for Mauritania and Senegal, said in the press release.
FLNG Gimi departed Singapore’s Seatrium Shipyard in November. In Golar LNG’s press release announcing the FLNG had set sale, GOLAR CEO Karl-Fredrik Staubo said, “With Gimi soon on site for start-up of operations, Golar will double its operating fleet of FLNGs and bring total installed liquefaction capacity up to 5.1 mtpa [million tonnes per annum]. We look forward to having FLNG Gimi in operation, and to continued long term cooperation with BP, Kosmos and the national oil and gas companies of Mauritania and Senegal.”
