Norway’s Equinor has gained operatorship for the Wisting Field in the Barents Sea as part pf an agreement with partner OMV, according to a news release.
The change took effect Dec. 1.
The transfer of operatorship comes after the two companies signed an agreement in June. Equinor will serve as operator during the development phase, while OMV will assume the role during the operation phase, Equinor said in the release.
The Wisting discovery, located in production license 537, was made in 2013. It is estimated to hold about 440 million barrels of oil. Other licensees are Petoro and Idemitsu Petroleum Norge.
