The company reported the discovery of oil from a well west of the Horseshoe discovery and hydrocarbon pay from a sidetrack.
Byron Energy’s latest well located on South Marsh Island Block 71 in shallow water Gulf of Mexico was flowing at a rate of 8.3 million cubic feet per day of gas.
MOL said preliminary evaluation of the main discovery shows recoverable resources between 12 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) and 71 MMboe.
The oil producer said it expects the new field—The Upper Pennsylvanian Silt (WolfPenn)—to be an oil-rich reservoir with significant volumes of gas as well.
VAALCO Energy Inc. said Feb. 18 that the South East Etame 4P appraisal wellbore drilled from the VAALCO operated South East Etame North Tchibala platform offshore Gabon in the Etame Marin permit area successfully encountered oil sands in the Gamba formation.
The new find is believed to contain between 200 million and 300 million barrels of light oil at a water depth of 340 m.
