1 Hallador Petroleum Co. , Denver, reports its #41-5 Cox Federal, Section 5-9n-26w SB, Santa Barbara County, Calif., is a satellite discovery to its South Cuyama Field that was completed flowing 1 million cu. ft. of gas per day. An 18/64-in. choke was used to test through perforations between 3,454-72 ft. in Miocene Santa Margarita. Two additional pay zones totaling 50 ft. were also encountered in the formation. Hallador is the operator and owns a 70% working interest and a 60% revenue interest. The company says the well is an important step in validating its 3-D seismic project that was recently completed. 2 Vancouver-based Habanero Resources Inc. says a decision was made to stop drilling and run casing to 11,581 ft. after significant gas shows were found in three separate reservoirs in the upper part of the Winters objective at the #3-26 Pale Rider, Section 26-5n-1e MD, Solano County, Calif. Production Specialties Co. , Woodland, Calif., is the operator of the exploratory prospect, located a little more than a half-mile north of Denverton Creek Field. It's also 50 ft. from the #2-26 Pale Rider that was recently plugged at a total depth of 11,977 ft. amid concerns about the possible inability to control the well due to high gas pressures. 3 Brundage Canyon Field in Duchesne County, Utah, was extended about half a mile east when Barrett Resources Corp. , Denver, completed the #2-27 Ute Tribal pumping 80 bbl. of oil and 20 bbl. of water per day. IHS Energy Group reports the stepout, in Section 27-5s-4w, is producing through perforations between 5,102-5,612 ft. in Tertiary Green River. 4 A vertical well that had produced from Ordovician Red River in Sheridan County, Mont., has been horizontally redrilled by Billings-based Nance Petroleum Corp. and completed as a shallower-pool Gunton discovery for 433 bbl. of oil, 212,000 cu. ft. of gas and 35 bbl. of water per day. The pumping well is the #2-1H Sorensen, irregular Section 12-33n-58e, that's producing from an openhole horizontal interval between 11,388-13,800 ft. (measured depths). Nance kicked off the original hole at about 9,807 ft. and drilled horizontally approximately 2,255 ft. 5 Exploratory work being carried out in Richland County, Mont., includes a horizontal test completed as a Red River deeper-pool discovery and a wildcat being drilled to evaluate Red River, reports IHS Energy Group. The discovery is the #14-6H Sorenson that yielded 107 bbl. of oil and 84 bbl. of water per day on pump at completion by Continental Resources Inc. , Enid, Okla. A horizontal redrill of a 12,240-ft. vertical dry hole in Section 6-21n-58e, the well is producing from a horizontal Red River "C" interval from 12,485 to 15.253 ft., measured total depth. The projected bottomhole location offsets an abandoned Ordovician Stonewall discovery that produced from 11,765-72 ft. Meanwhile, Armstrong Operating Inc. , Dickinson, N.D., is drilling the wildcat. It's the #18-1 Verschoot, Section 18-23n-54e, that's to bottom at about 11,800 ft. 6 A deeper-pool opener completed by Flying J Oil & Gas Inc. , North Salt Lake, Utah, in North Dakota's Little Knife Field initially flowed 3.6 million cu. ft. of gas, 81 bbl. of condensate and 25 bbl. of water daily from Red River "D." The #8-4 Zabolotny, Section 4-144n-98w, Billings County, was tested on a 24/64-in. choke at approximately 13,850 ft. It's in an area that produces from Mississippian Mission Canyon (Madison) at about 9,800 ft. Additionally, details have just been made available regarding another deeper-pool discovery made in Little Knife Field-the #21-16 Stiletto-that was completed several months ago by Westport Oil & Gas Co. in Section 16-143n-98w. Denver-based Westport pumped 102 bbl. of oil and 300 bbl. of water, with 107,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day from Devonian Duperow at 11,626-30 ft. This well is also in an area of 9,800-ft. Mission Canyon production. 7 Berco Resources LLC , Denver, has completed two horizontal producers in North Dakota, each with a relatively high rate of oil flow. In Williams County's McGregor Field, the gauge was 595 bbl. of oil, 130,000 cu. ft. of gas and 91 bbl. of water at the #6H NDCA, Section 16-158n-95w. The well is producing from an openhole lateral in Devonian Winnipegosis from 11,973 to 15,003 ft. Divide County's Stoneview Field is the site of the other horizontal well-the #3314H Stoneview Stonewall Unit, Section 14-160n-95w. An openhole horizontal Stonewall interval between 12,040-15,027 ft. gave up a flow of 462 bbl. of oil per day. 8 The #33-33 Desolation Flats, a gas discovery drilled by Tom Brown Inc. , Denver, within the 229,781-acre Desolation Flats Natural Gas Project Area in Wyoming, has been completed as a Cretaceous Almond (Mesaverde) producer. No gauges have been reported. According to IHS Energy Group, the 14,060-ft. venture is in 33-15n-95w, Sweetwater County. 9 Drilling depth is below 2,000 ft. at the Gulf Production Corp. #11-16 Jim Hill Draw, a wildcat in Section 16-36n-76w, Converse County, Wyo.
