Janney Montgomery Scott LLC on Aug. 10 added an experienced team, formerly affiliated with Baird, with a focus on the midstream and upstream energy sector to its capital markets group.

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Janney is a full-service wealth management, financial services and investment banking firm. The firm’s investment banking team operates in four sectors, including business services, financial institutions, infrastructure and real estate.

The new energy advisory team will operate within the infrastructure vertical and be led by Managing Directors Curtis Goot and Frank Murphy.

Goot and Murphy have more than 50 years of combined industry experience. They are joined by Vice President Carl Grote, Associate Carter Ellston and Kevin Pavlacic, who will serve as an analyst.

Commenting on the move to Janney, Goot and Murphy stated: “We are very excited to be joining a firm committed to the energy sector and providing our clients with the highest quality advice. We are looking forward to establishing Janney as a premier advisor to the midstream and upstream sectors, and working with our clients as the energy sector recovers from the effects of COVID-19.”

Over the past 10 years, Goot and Murphy have completed 225 midstream and upstream advisory and capital raising transactions totaling over $100 billion in aggregate deal value for a broad range of clients, according to a release from Janney.

“Curtis and Frank operate a conflict-free M&A advisory and fairness opinion business, and bring a long history of assisting energy companies with complex, high-profile deals,” Geoff Hodgson, head of equities and investment banking at Janney, said in a statement. “Their addition underscores our commitment to expand our reach, deepen our sector experience, and invest in the business to meet our strategic objectives.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Curtis, Frank and their talented team to Janney. Their energy industry experience is a natural fit within our Infrastructure vertical, and we look forward to leveraging sector knowledge and strategic relationships to better serve our clients,” added Matt Veneri, head of investment banking at Janney.

Janney has consistently ranked as a top middle-market capital markets firm in the U.S. since 2015, and in that time has completed 409 capital markets and M&A transactions aggregating over $48 billion in transaction value, according to the firm’s release.
