1 Newfield Exploration Co., Houston, filed an initial plan of exploration for its Dalmatian prospect with the U.S. Minerals Management Service for as-yet-undrilled DeSoto Canyon blocks 47 and 48 in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. According to IHS Energy, wells will be drilled from two locations in 5,798 ft. of water in Block 47, both to bottomhole locations in Block 48 to the east. The nearest producer is King's Peak, nine miles southwest in DeSoto Canyon 133. During the first 11 months of 2003, that single-well field produced 26.2 billion cu. ft. of gas, 30,693 bbl. of condensate and 25,998 bbl. of water. 2 A second ultra-deepwater well on the Jubilee West prospect has been drilled by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. The Houston independent's well is in the northern half of Atwater Valley 349 in the Gulf of Mexico. The #2 OCS-G-18577, drilled in 8,745 ft. of water, bottomed at 17,800 ft. The new test is almost a half-mile north of the company's #1 well, which found 83 ft. of net pay after bottoming at 18,310 ft. Anadarko may drill up to 10 wells on blocks 349 and 305, where it estimates reserves as high as 50 million bbl. of oil equivalent. The company also has filed an exploration plan for Jubilee East on adjacent Lloyd Ridge blocks 265 and 309, where it proposed five wells in water depths from 8,583 to 8,868 ft. Anadarko's Atlas discovery is 25 miles northeast, on which it has drilled successful wells in adjacent blocks 5 and 50, IHS Energy said. 3 Bi-Petrol Inc., Springfield, Ill., continues its work in the northwestern Illinois Basin as it has permitted a new exploratory well 1.5 miles southwest of Edinburg in western Christian County, Ill. The #1 Andruch will test Silurian at 1,850 ft. in Section 22-14n-3w. That site is a half-mile north of the nearest wells in Edinburg West Field, which has produced more than 3.5 million bbl. of oil from Silurian and Devonian about 1,700 ft. since 1954. In the latest reporting month, the field produced 1,800 bbl. of oil. Bi-Petrol also has a test scheduled to Silurian at 1,700 ft. some six miles northwest at its #2 Mohler-Western Comm. 4 The Elysium Energy LLC arm of Denver-based Patina Oil & Gas Corp. completed a new producer in Clay City Consolidated Field in Clay County, Ill., for 223 bbl. of oil per day with no gas or water from Salem "O" lime perforations between 3,634-48 ft. The #10 E.R. Priestman "A" well is 2.5 miles south of Clay City in Section 5-2n-8e. The company also reported good oil shows in the Upper Cypress sand and the Salem "N-2" zones in the 3,804-ft. well. With the completion of the #9 E.R. Priestman "A," the company produced 1,413 bbl. from its lease last August. The new well raised production to 8,240 bbl. a month. Clay City Consolidated Field has produced some 375 million bbl. of oil since its discovery in 1937, according to IHS Energy. 5 A wildcat permitted by Jasper Oil Producing Inc., Mount Sterling, Ill., will test the Degonia sand at 2,250 ft. The company's #1 Kevin McGuire is in Section 21-3n-6w in Daviess County, Ind., about two miles west of Montgomery. Nearest production is nearly 1.75 miles north where Montgomery Field produces from Salem. 6 Ardent Resources Inc., Pittsburgh, has permitted the #1 Raymond Unit about four miles south of Oneida in Section C, Smithfield Township, Morrisville Quad in Madison County, N.Y. The 4,100-ft. wildcat will evaluate gas through the Potsdam sand about 10 miles northwest of Lebanon Field. Ardent completed the #1 Warren L&C Unit in that field in 1998 flowing 1.1 million cu. ft. of gas a day from fractured and acidized Oneida/Oswego between 2,612-54 ft. Ardent has two more wildcats staked over a broad area in the county, IHS Energy said. 7 The Trenton-Black River play in southern New York continued to pay big dividends to the Fortuna Energy Inc. subsidiary of Calgary-based Talisman Energy Inc. The company drilled two wells to approximately 9,850 ft. near Corning in southeastern Steuben County. The #1 Reed in Corning Township, Corning Quad, tested at a maximum rate of 20.3 million cu. ft. of gas a day, restricted by the capacity of the surface facilities. The #1 Hakes, in the same township and quad about a mile northwest, tested at a rate of 17.5 million cu. ft. of gas daily. The company had previously tested the #1 Andrews in the same area for more than 18 million cu. ft. of gas a day, also limited by surface equipment. That well should produce 10 million cu. ft. of gas a day, initially, into the pipeline, and increase production to more than 20 million cu. ft. of gas a day after debottlenecking operations. The company has shut in the #1 Reed and #1 Hakes for pressure build-up tests, but expects to produce the wells into the pipeline at rates of more than 20 million cu. ft. a day each. Fortuna also has staked the #1 Moss wildcat to Trenton-Black River in the same area. 8 Columbia Natural Resources Inc., Charleston, W.Va., has staked the #1 Davies wildcat to test Trenton-Black River at 10,291 ft. in Chemung County, N.Y. The well is in Section G, Erin Township, Erin Quad, less than two miles southwest of an unnamed Trenton-Black River field and nearly 7.25 miles east of Elmira. 9 Atlas Resources Inc., Jackson Center, Pa., has permitted a wildcat to Medina at 4,706 ft. in Crawford County, Pa. The #1 Seeley is in Section D, Geneva Quad, Greenwood Township, a little more than a mile east of Greenwood Field and 5.3 miles southeast of Conneaut Lake, Pa.
